Not going to lie, I am a self-confessed mascara junkie. I fall for every gimmick that a new mascara advertises and even though I try to restrain myself, I will end up purchasing it anyway.

Also, does anyone find putting on mascara to be quite therapeutic?

I was determined to get this mascara after I heard Chloe Morello mention it to be a dupe for the YSL’s Babydoll mascara. But of course, it is a fraction of the price so even if this mascara wasn’t so good, it wouldn’t damage the wallet too much (which is why I am always hesitant of buying designer cosmetics….ahh maybe one day!)

Firstly, I quite like this packaging. In comparison to the other Essence mascara packaging, this one looks more sleek and sophisticated with the silver and black theme. On the back, this mascara claims to have “incredible volume and false lash effect” as well as “no clumps”. Well that just ticks all the boxes for a perfect mascara in my opinion.

However, I don’t think this mascara is the best for volume and there are better ones on the market. BUT it is amazing for lengthening and coating every single lash! When curled and applied, I look like I have Bambi lashes, it is a miracle. As for clumps, you may experience some clumping on initial application but it disappears after you use the brush to comb through.

The brush has a plastic wand and is slightly tapered at the end, which makes it easier to reach the inner and outer corners. As the bristles are not that dense, it can give the lashes that “spidery” effect which I don’t mind.

A downside to this mascara is that it isn’t available in a waterproof version. After a few hours I can see smudges on my cheeks which is fixable but I do wish they would create a waterproof formula, as my eyelids are quite oily.

But retailing for only $4.95, you can’t go past this mascara if you are after long lashes for everyday use.
