It’s silly of her to assume she could avoid the memories of the SAZ here, too.
She’s seen people from home before, who knew the truth of that awful, bloody day. Sometimes she still has the nightmares, but having Suzaku nearby has made the coping easier. One time she thinks, rather naively, that it might be able to stay in the past.
That day is the day where she sees someone directly harmed from it-- Someone who doesn’t know the truth, and curses her name because of it.
The pain is quick to spread across Euphie’s face. She looks away, gaze firmly planted on the ground beneath her feet. It was years ago now that she had been in the opposite position, unaware of what had actually happened at the opening ceremony. However, she had believed that it was a success-- Kallen believes otherwise. Kallen saw her with a gun, bloodied and shooting bullets into Japanese people.
Bile rises in her throat. She understands now why it was so difficult for Suzaku to talk about it. Knowing the girl before her has to be looking at her with fire in her eyes, the former princess clasps her hands together and waits. Whether it’s yelling, a slap, anything-- She expects it.
She also hopes she’ll be given a chance to clear her name.
