William J. Merriman, Ph.D., professor of kinesiology, published “De La Salle’s "Twelve Virtues of a Good Teacher”: Still Relevant Today?“ in Axis: Journal of Lasallian Higher Education Vol. 10, no. 2. It was published by the Institute for Lasallian Studies at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2020.
Amy Surak Joins Inaugural Meeting of International Society of Lasallian Archivists
Amy Surak, Manhattan College’s Director of Archives and Special Collections, joined more than 30 archivists from over 20 districts of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools gathered at the Motherhouse in Rome, Italy to participate in the inaugural meeting of ISLA, the International Society of Lasallian Archivists.
From October 29-31, the participants came together to meet, connect and work collectively to help support the research of our Lasallian heritage.
Members listened to several presentations from various districts, met in language groups to exchange ideas and resources and contributed to two surveys. They also explored the Archives, Museum and the Library of the Generalate as well as the historical collections of external institutions.
After this successful initial international meeting, members are looking forward to a potential future gathering in two years in New York City.

1. Connecting Bridges
Connecting bridges inside the cam from Yuchengco to Henry Sy Sr. Hall
Connecting bridge from Gokongwei to Miguel to SJ Hall
Connecting from Razon to STRC
Rushing to go to class through the different buildings with your 15 minute break? These connecting bridges make it easier for you guys to get from one place to another. Plus, you will no longer need to go through the long line for bag checks from the Agno Gates. This is also convenient when it’s raining and you don’t have umbrellas around.

2. Printing in SCoOp
Most of the students are not aware of SCoOp and its printing services at an affordable price. It is located at the ground floor of the Brother Connon Hall, just across the clinic. This is makes it more convenient for the students because it is inside the campus.

3. “Silent Corner” in the Library
The Learning Commons at the Henry Sy Building is famous (or infamous) as the go to “tambayan” of every Lasallian. However, if you are truly looking for a quiet place to study, “Silent Corners” can be found on each floor of the library from the 10th to the 14th floor. The “Silent Corner” has tables and chairs for individuals separate from the typical couches that are close together. This corner will really help you focus on your studies because it is away from all the noise outside.

4. Enlisting in Computer Labs
Enlistment is always a big deal to Lasallians because it is always a game of chance with these classes. Most students would usually enlist in computer shops but what you do not know is that you can use the computer labs inside the campus to enlist. It is faster to use since the computers are directly connected to the university’s speedy internet connection.

5. Holding Meetings inside the Power Mac Center
Organizations always hold meetings and one of the problems they frequently encounter is the venue. The rooms are usually fully booked because various organizations hold meetings at the same time. Most of the students are not aware that there is an area in the university’s Power Mac Center that is just like a conference room. You can definitely use this room for your meetings without the hassle of booking a classroom or conference room. Getting there in advance to check the availability is recommended for a sure spot.

6. Study Areas Around the Campus
What most students don’t know is there is also a study area in the Faculty Center. The environment is suitable for studying because it is quiet, air conditioned and the internet connection is faster than most areas. If you are looking for a study area that accommodates long hours, the Gokongwei Hall is now officially open 24 hours, except during Sundays. Lasallians can especially use this advantage during finals week to pull an “all nighter” to finish all the requirements and study for the exams. An honesty store for a quick midnight snack is also available to avoid going out in the danger during those wee hours. More well-known study areas are the Learning Commons, Medrano Hall, and Andrew Building 15th Floor.

7. Parking Spaces Around the Campus
Parking is always a problem among the students who drive especially during the “peak hours” which is usually from 8:00 - 11:00 am. They become late to class because it takes a while for them to find a slot. There are spaces in Razon, Green Court, Beach and EGI. There are also open parking spaces behind the condominiums like Manila Residences. Harisson Plaza also becomes an option when everything else is full.

8. Activity Areas Around the Campus
General Assemblies, Movie Nights, Meetings and a lot of other activities can be held in areas aside from classrooms. The campus provides an area like this to allow the students to make the most out of their organization’s activities. These areas also give off a more relaxed and comfortable vibe which makes the students feel more “at home”.
These are just some of the hacks that make our student life easier. Despite all the stress and hassle, DLSU still finds a way to make it better for us because after all, this is our second home.
