After larp rant, I’m tired as shit, don’t even want to think, and just fucking exhausted in general
I was stressed shitless a few days before the larp if I had everything I needed and fuck man our camp/shop looked fucking amazing, felt like we really gave something to the general atmosphere of a breathing living post-apocalyptic town, that and our two “bunker-mates” were fucking amazing, worked great both in and off game, really felt like we had known each other for months ingame and had these silent connection which was fucking awesome, and they apparently loved Max which felt awesome as well, as even if I wasn’t feeling it 100% they had loved the role I was playing and I’m glad to add to that at least
Sadly the friend who was playing the other part of our concept wasn’t feeling larping at all, it sucked and didn’t feel like it was much I could about it, he would just sort of disappear and my concept fell a bit on that as well, I still had some great moments but it locked me in a bit since I had been relying on him as part of the duo concept, and by the time he got the feel back I had completely lost mine, had a hard time adjusting in time and feel like I lost a big part of the larp because of it which I regret, there were some big ups and downs and right now I feel generally a bit down because of it, since no matter how hard I prepped it didn’t matter and I feel like I hardly got to larp at all with my friend I was there with, I ended up ending the larp on a low note which I think ruined it a bit as well, keep thinking if I just had had a bit more time it could have gone a bit better and I could have at least ended on something better than the 3 hours of “I want to go home now, I don’t want to fucking larp anymore” we ended up going NPC me and my friend for the final fight which I think was better than playing our characters, gave me some bruises and I got to shoot, which was something
I really liked playing Max for the moments I got, and I love the character and concept in general but I’m not sure if I should play it again for all the downs it gave me too, I need to rework a few things for sure, just worried it’ll ruin the concept to the point where the thing I do love about him isn’t there anymore, I will think about it, however, a few highpoints from the larp with Max include:
-Turning up the music on my recordplayer/radio whenever there was either a gunfight, or someone walking past with their own music/loud noise
- Really getting a use out of my distressed card deck, and adding it as one of Max hobbies, playing poker and other forms of cards, worked as a great connection with the character "Micken" who lived in the same container we did, and I got to meet a and get to know a few other characters that way, only wished I had done it more
-Lazying about, just putting on Max favorite cassettes, putting my feet up on the table, pulling out the old Punisher comic from the secret stash and reading, acting offended to everyone who dared disturb, or drag a chair out in the sun, flipping down my dark goggles and recharge my arm
-Going to one of the bigger groups camps early in the morning, choosing a chair with the appropriate amount of morning light, and just waiting until one of them wake up to just mutter "Coffee." Until they delivered it to me, not saying anything else, just occasionally pointing, throwing them a lighter or placing my cup to show my disapproval, promptly leaving after a nod and a few sips
-Shocking everyone with how quick Max was able to fix things and especially when no one noticed, revealing to my bunker-mates that I had in fact, earned us enough to take the week off without them even noticing, “I HAVE BEEN WATCHING YOU ALL DAY! YOU’VE DONE NOTHING EXCEPT BEING LAZY” “*shrug*”
-Likewise, with Mitch, the other one of our container mates, a very talkactive, optimstic woman being on my ass all thursday on how I hadn’t fixed her light I had promised her, just shrugged it off, fixed it half an hour later, but didn’t say anything until she 2 hours later, asked a little sarcastic how the light was doing when she caught me lazing about again, for which I just turned it on and held it up in the air, the surprise in her face was fucking epic
-Having some general great moments as NPC “raider”, eating shit and getting headshot first off the truck, and the entire battlefield being us 20-30 “Wolves” against the rest 300-600 of the larp, so many smokegrenades we could hardly see our hands infront of us, just shooting and stabbing everything in view, I’m bruised and got trampled but it was exciting at least and I got some stories
-PIT FIGHTS, THEY HAD ACTUAL THUNDERDOME STYLE PITFIGHTS
-My arm was fucking great, finger movements sucked and I can’t shuffle cards, but 2 out of 3 lights worked so fuck yea
-Just the general fucking setting is right up my fucking alley, everyone having fucking amazing rides and outfits fucking shit
-Flipping characters for a few hours to head out into the “cheap” bar in the middle of the wasteland 2km from the village, played a more youngish, upbeat “wanderer” was fun
-The few moments of play I did get with General Mr. Professor Dr. Van Fünkel, the friend I was there with
-Getting called in to fix an android and grabbing the usual tools and a roll of ductape, getting a confused look from Micken but just moving on, Max is a man of primivtive and simple solutions
Everyone was, and everything looked fucking amazing and I’m mostly upset I didn’t get to see as much of it as I may have wanted to due to our concept failing a bit, and me not being fast enough to adapt as I really didn’t want to break the character I loved, both ups and downs, where the downs were sadly very very down, but I don’t regret going, right now I’m just exhausted, having built up so much for this one weekend, my brain is slow and I have more work that needs to be done this week which is giving me a shitty feeling right now
Time to try to take the professionals advice and chill for at least a day, I hope
