Sketch a Day 1090- I’m Here- 5/1/18

Something that kind of occurred to me while making this is

Everyone in the fandom clearly agrees that Jaspers and Lapis fusion was obviously symbolic of a abusive relationship.

What I find most interesting is the fandom makes Lapis out to be the victim of the relationship.And yes being fused with Jasper did put Lapis threw ALOT which combined with her experience during the war dose make Lapis a sympathetic character. And she’s rather lovable what with her budding friendship with Peridot.

But in all actuality it’s Jasper that was the victim. She thought Lapis was joining her in a willing fusion, then Lapis used the new found power to literally Trap Jasper in the “Relationship”. Then after Jasper begs to be together again because she misses the feeling of power. This could be compared to the sensation of stability domestic abuse victims get then consequently want back. Many Victims convince themselves that the situation was their fault and promise the abuser they’ll be better things will be different.

Usually this is the moment the abuser will take advantage of the situation (also don’t get me wrong when the victim manages to break away from the abuser the abuser will often say the same things Jasper did on the boat) . But Lapis didn’t want to become a abuser. She didn’t want the power over Jasper nor did she like it.

Also to say I’m not saying Jasper is completely blameless I’m just saying that when it comes to the fusion itself Jasper was the victim. But it also gets kinda muddled as fusion isn’t 100% representational of relationships and then war has to be factored in.

I wasn’t happy with my last attempt at fanart, so i did another one. Moreover, I realized that i shouldn’t try painting with Flux operating. It really screws with my colour perception.
