Happy #tuesdaybluesday ! This isn’t really a blues tune, but it’s what I was messing with tonight. This is my favorite Woody Guthrie tune “Pastures of Plenty”. I have a version worked up on resonator guitar that’s decent, but I am liking it on lap slide guitar. It pushes it into more of a ballad, which is what I hear in my head. When I sing this tune, I’m singing it as a protest tune. It was written by Guthrie about migrant workers- notably “Okies” who were ravaged by dust storms in the depression and went en mass towards LA. Read Steinbeck’s Grapes if Wrath for a good account. But when I’m singing this tune, I think of people today displaced by violence and poverty, and the media political force that goes into demonizing people who really are just trying to survive. I think about them because I know how fruit is picked in this country, how hotel rooms are cleaned, how houses get built...and that’s my thoughts for this evening. #lapguitar #lapsteel #folkmusic #folksong #woodyguthrie #thoughts #immigration #slideguitar #bluesdaytuesday #rootsmusician #rootsmusic #thegreatdepression #johnsteinbeck #grapesofwrath #baltimore #baltimoremusic #baltimorefolkmusic #thebmorecreatives #myphilosophy #poverty #migrants #openmind #dustbowl #pasturesofplenty #fingerpickingguitar #fingerpickingguitar (at Baltimore, Maryland) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5EjGnJnno6/?igshid=1wejofqy5upih
