Throwback ten years when Passa Paa was just a glint of light in the sky, a li'll sparkle in my eye and @annieonacid and I were off roaming the remote highlands of Laos researching the culture of hemp made by the Hmong ethnic group.  Off towards the boarder with Vietnam we went from village to village documenting the process from it’s source as the Cannabis Sativa plant and soon learnt how insanely labour intensive it is to turn it into fibres and yarn and yarn into fabric.  Through its many processes its these that make it into one of my favourite materials to work with for its durability, softening over time and most importantly appreciating how many hands it's been touch by to make it what it is.  This was a journey I will remember forever we ended up on the top of a mountain, mist clinging to the landscapes below us in a village who so warmly welcomed us and our presents of chickens and flip flops.  It's there where we met this lively lady, eager to get dressed up in her finest Hmong threads and demonstrate her hemp mastery and yarn spinning skills. #chooseartisan #passapaa #languageofcloth #bigupstohemp #hmong #roadtrip #villagesoflaos #clothroad
