Happy summer solstice everyone! I want to celebrate the beginning of summer by posting this picture of the most beautiful peonies that I have ever bought. I got them at the farmer’s market in Langeais, located in the Loire Valley in France about ten days ago. I think their burgundy, wine red, plum or whatever you want to call their color is absolutely gorgeous and the flowers were really humongous! I like to be honest these peonies weren’t cheap, but they brought me three days of bliss on our vacation in France and totally worth it. You have to spoil yourself from time to time, don’t you think? Langeais, 2003

Château de Langeais is a romantic medieval castle with an interesting history dating back to the 10th century located in the Loire Valley in France. It also has a beautiful medieval style garden garden in the back which I found worth visiting. My photo shows the château from the back with part of the medieval style garden seen to the left side. To the right side there were some pretty nice rose standards which we came across quite often in the public gardens in France. I always have found castles quite interesting and love visiting them including their gardens. Maybe it is the romantic part in me that wishes the world would be a pretty fairytale. To my surprise, I haven’t seen that many roses in France, yet! I snapped a picture of these flowers in the medieval style garden of Château de Langeais, the castle that I featured yesterday. I love the airiness and frothy quality of the blooms so much. They look almost like a wildflower meadow, but I think they are herbs! Many plants were labeled at the castle garden, but unfortunately I don’t now the identity of these.
