A/n: Slightly alternative timeline to my other Doctor Lance fics

It was a normal day for you at Chicago Med. You were working with Dr Choi whilst your girlfriend, Dr Sarah Reese was working alongside Dr Charles.

You’d given up being a vigilante after your sister, Laurel was murdered by Damien Darhk, throwing yourself to continue med school away from Star City, eventually being placed at Gaffney Chicago Medical Centre, where you met the love of your life. Sarah Reese.

You were about to walk over to Maggie to ask a question when a bright light distracted you.

“Doctor Y/n Lance. A crisis is here and I need your help. Your sister needs your help.” A tall man with mutton chops, wearing a perculiar space outfit stated as he appeared in the middle of the ED.

“And you are...” You trailed off, waving your hands around to calm down Erin, Brett, Reese and everyone as they stared between you and The Monitor.

“You already know, Dr Lance. Just like you already know that we need to go, a crisis is here and you’re needed as our eighth paragon.” The Monitor began but you just looked more confused.

“Paragon... am I even allowed to ask or do we not have time?” You retorted but the sour look from The Monitor made you glare at the ground before turning and running over to Reese.

“Y/n, what’s going on?”

“Y/n, we have to go.” You froze at your sister’s voice, a new determination firing up in your eyes as you kissed Reese, slipping something into her hand before you stepped away.

“I love you, please don’t forget that, with every fibre of my body.” You whispered, staring into Reese’s eyes before you heard your sister caught.

“I have to go...” You whispered, chewing your lip before turning to follow The Monitor and Sara out of the ED.

“Y/n, what’s going on?” Brett began, Upton with Lindsay and Dawson behind her.

You opened your mouth to speak but the glowing sky got your attention, changing from a cloudy blue to a deep red.

“Crisis is here...” You replied, tucking your hands into your doctor coat jacket.

“Y/n...” Reese whispered, she was about to cry which made you falter before she just nodded, mouthing ‘yes’ and you knew, mouthing ‘I love you’ to her before turning to face your sister’s smirk and The Monitor’s indifference.

You saw Reese wearing the ring on her left hand before the three of you were gone in the blink of an eye, arriving on the Waverider.

“Well that was interesting.” Sara began to tease but you just shook your head, flushing red.

“Yeah, not exactly my proposal idea but let’s get to saving the world from crisis, sis.”

“Y/N?”

You were currently standing in Felicity’s apartment alongside the OTA and NTA. After the disastrous events that followed yours and your father’s rescue, Rene, Dinah and Curtis had formed their own team which left you in between the two teams.

OTA had asked you all to meet them so they could discuss the situation. Oliver had apologised for his actions and wanted to start with a clean slate. NTA had unanimously declined but that wasn’t an opinion you shared.

“Wait, is that... the girl Reese was eyeing like a month ago currently snogging Reese?” Shay questioned as she looked up from her drink. Erin just smirked, sipping her beer in the process.

“More like Dr Reese is making out Dr Lance, just like they did in the middle of the ED before they even got together...” Maggie remarked causing Shay to gawp in shock.

“Why was I not informed of the baby gays?!” Shay exclaimed causing Kim to just shrug. “They made out in the middle of the ED when Dawson and Brett were there?” Erin mentioned, slightly confused.

“Dawson, how could you not tell me about the baby gays?!” Shay began causing Dawson to frown before her eyes lingered on you and Reese walking in.

“We were a bit distracted by trying to get a patient to Baghdad honestly and they were both kinda shook by the entire thing, I think that kiss we saw, was Reese admitting her feelings, so-”

“Y’know you all project your thoughts a lot.” You interrupted, pulling up a bar stool as Reese hopped up onto her’s.

“Don’t you have dampeners on?” Kim questioned causing you to roll your sleeves up, revealing your tattoos and the dampeners on your arms.

“My powers are dulled, telepathy is mainly off but empath powers are still kinda there.” You explained, sipping your water.

“CCU?” Erin questioned causing you to frown before realising you had a CCU baseball t-shirt on. “Central City University. I studied biochemistry there then medicine but I spent my last year before uni in Angel Grove then spent that summer there too.” You explained with a shrug causing Reese to tilt her head to the side.

“Aren’t your family from Star City? Why not study there?” Maggie questioned causing you to clench your jaw. “Star City up until the death of Oliver Queen was a shambles and family drama deterred me.” You replied with a fake smile before your phone began to ring.

“Sorry, I need to take this, it’s my sister...” You explained, kissing Reese on the cheek before you headed away from the group. Reese blushed pink at the interaction before watching you walk away with your phone to your ear.

“She’s interesting... what’s up with her and Star City though?” Dawson questioned causing Reese to just sip her drink, avoiding the question.

“Besides the fact that Star City was a shambles as Y/n put it, pre-2020 anyway...” Erin interrupted, revealing the Wikipedia page of Star City, previously known as Starling City.

You returned 10 minutes later with a large pint glass of water and a refill for Reese before you turned to her.

“My sister is in town next week and is insisting she meets you. By insisting I mean if we try hide she will find us.” You explained causing Reese to just raise an eyebrow.

“Wait, Sara, right? The reformed assassin now Captain of a time travel ship?” Reese questioned causing you to just sip your water with an awkward look on your face as everyone gawped at you.

“Yeah...Sara... the twin Laurels are in Gotham City 2020 as the ADA and Star City 2040... my dad is in Star City to finish his term as mayor, so yeahhh... just to clarify, I have been drinking water all night.” You stated causing Reese to just chuckle as you gestured to the now empty, pint glass.

“And with that, I think we should take our leave, babe.” Reese announced, gently looping arms with you as the two of you got up to leave, the tab already paid by you earlier.

“Night guys!” Everyone chanted as the two of you headed out, Reese kissing your cheek as she realised how red your face was.

“So you and Angel Grove?” Reese brought up as the two of you were curled up under a blanket on the couch together.

“I was 17 and pretty sure I was into girls when I spent my semester there. This was before I got my powers may I add... anyway, I was the new girl with no friends. That went on for like a week then when I was sat alone at lunch, a group came to sit with me. I have photos on my laptop but those 5 let me hang out with them and became my friends that I’ve been in touch with since... Jason, Kim, Zack, Billy and Trini... I also spent that summer there before heading back to Central City to study biochem...” You explained, glancing at Reese every once in a while to see she was watching you speak with a small smile.

“What’s your favourite memory of that summer?” She asked, pressing her lips to your forehead.

“Sitting around a camp fire with them, Zack stuffing his face with marshmallows and Jason giving his to Billy if he wanted them, sitting with Kim and Trini having the times of our lives... Trini and Kim are two of my best friends, I still talk to them in our group chat... some of our chats involved date ideas and me rambling about how beautiful you are... they both find it hilarious since Trini was my first proper gay crush, so...” You explained, feeling Reese smile into the crook of your neck.

“Do you think I need a car?” You asked out of the blue as you were sat in the passenger seat of Reese’s car.

“Why, do you think you need a car?” Reese asked back, glancing at you.

“I just, your car got targetted before and we don’t live together yet so you giving me lifts is out of your way even though we’re dating and I’m overthinking this extremely...” You rambled causing Reese to smile as she pulled up to park at the ED.

“My apartment contract is up in a month, we could renew it and you move in then eventually we move into a bigger place? Also, I could trade this car in for something we could share...and throw off my old stalker too...” Reese mumbled causing you to smile, leaning over to capture her lips with yours.

“I have two friends who are awesome with cars and just tech in general back in Angel Grove, Jason Scott and Billy Cranston... they’ll help with trading...” Your rambling was cut off as Reese’s hand went to the back of your neck to pull you back in for a kiss, her fingers tangling in your hair.

The two of you broke apart at the cheering and teasing from outside of the car. Half of the ED staff were there.

“Oh god.” Reese mumbled as you just slid down in your chair, hands covering your face.

You were in Central City the night of the Particle Accelerator explosion, visiting your mother. Nobody knew you were affected. You didn’t even know for the longest time because your powers were temperamental. They did their own thing and you couldn’t control them or force them.

That meant, even when you found out you had powers, nobody believed you. Not your sister or her Earth 2 doppelganger, your other sister or the captain or the SCPD, who happened to be your current crush.

Right now you were glaring up a storm at the DJ who had just answered a request to dedicate a song to you. One that had a deeper meaning to you that you didn’t like.

“Is it me or is your sister kinda glittery?” Thea whispered to E1 Laurel who frowned as she glanced over at you, standing in the crowd with one of the lamps focussed on you thanks to the DJ’s song dedication.

“Hey, what the hell is Y/n doing?” E2 Laurel enquired, raising an eyebrow at Dinah and Sara who both looked confused.

“Maybe Y/n wasn’t lying when she said she has powers?” Thea enquired, making Dinah frown and E2 Laurel glare.

“Y/n doesn’t lie. Her doppelganger was literally incapable of it on my earth.”

You were basically elbowing your way through the crowd, following the person you were after. You didn’t realise the pink glittery glow around your features or how your eyes had changed colour to a soft pink.

“Where the hell did you go?” You growled, eyes flicking around the dance floor until you saw the person in question standing at the top of the staircase, causing you to bolt.

“Where the hell did she go?” E2 Laurel questioned, glancing around for your pink sparkles. 

“Stairs!” E1 Laurel exclaimed but Dinah was already half way up when she spotted your pink glittery glow and a hooded figure.

“Who’s the one in the hoodie Y/n’s tailing?” Dinah asked, making Sara just frown before gesturing to another door. 

“Shortcut. Let’s go.”

A huff escaped your lips as you began to tussle with the hooded figure. Currently you had your back slammed so far into the wall that pieces of shale that fallen to the ground. Your focus wasn’t on that however, it was on the fangs that were very close to your neck.

“Y/n! Oh-” Sara began, opening the door to a scene she didn’t expect. The shock from the vampire of being interrupted enabled you to push them off of you, focussing your powers into a pink glitter blast that disintegrated the vampire attacking you.

“What just happened?” Dinah enquired, raising an eyebrow at you but you just flushed red, directing your attention to the ashes on the floor.

“Glitter Bomb, there’s another one- I see you got that one at least.” 

You glared at the nickname. 

“Jonno, I’m not being called Glitter Bomb. Where’s the other vampire?”

“I’m sorry, did you just say, vampire?” E2 Laurel exclaimed, sarcasm laced in her tone but you just rolled your eyes, gaze flicking from Dinah to the staircase.

“Can you handle that other vampire or do you need my help?” You snarked at Jonno who just smirked and rolled his eyes. 

“I’m a Van Helsing. I’ll be fine, just remember to check in with base before noon tomorrow.” Jonno retorted before heading out, making you roll your eyes even more before turning to Dinah.

“It’s a long story...” You stated, gaining raised eyebrows from each of the women in front of you.

“Well, Girls Night took a turn for the vampiric.”

“You all rendered me insane in your eyes because I had temperamental powers that I couldn’t prove that I had in the first place. Jonno found me when I got attacked by a vampire one night in Gotham, 5 years ago. My powers activated and dusted the thing like I just did to that one. After that, I trained to become a vampire hunter and succeeded.” You growled, about to walk away when Dinah grabbed your wrist, causing you to turn around and give her a look.

“Can we talk?”

You just nodded, following Dinah back down the staircase before the two of you slipped under the staircase into the darkness.

“What?” You questioned, angry facade fading as the two of you did into the darkness. Everything was silent for a moment before Dinah launched forward, her hands on your hips to hold you still as she pressed her lips to yours, determination on her lips as you kissed back.

“What was that for?”

“That guy all over you?”

You’re jealous of a vampire that I disintegrated?” You teased, feeling Dinah’s breath on your lips.

“Shut up and kiss me, Glitter Bomb.”

“Oh, please, we are not keeping that-” You were cut off as Dinah’s lips slammed into yours again, the music playing in the background echoing through your ear canels.

Gonna party till they take us away

You let out a breath as your bus finally pulled up to your stop, Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. You were going to do your residency for Psychiatry at Chicago ED, starting today.

“Ah, Dr Lance, great to have you onboard. I’m Dr Charles. Dr Reese, this is Dr Lance, she’s going to be conducting her Psychiatry residency with us.” You smiled, shaking hands with Dr Charles as the brunette next him smiled. “Hi.”

“Hey. I’m Y/n Lance...”

“Sarah Reese.”

“Where’s she from anyway?” Reese asked Dr Charles who frowned, fiddling with his glasses before realising. “Who? Y/n? Why don’t you ask her instead of me, Dr Reese. You’ll find Y/n will be quite forthcoming.” 

Reese just frowned slightly before nodding, heading out of Dr Charles’ office to find you.

“Hey, Dr Lance.” Reese announced,  causing you to look up from your computer. “Hey, Dr Reese. How are you today?” You questioned, glancing up at Reese for a moment before looking down at the computer screen again.

“I’m okay, thank you... I was just wondering where you were from?” Reese questioned, not noticing how Maggie and April were now watching the two of you. Your eyes flickered around for a second before you sighed. “I was born in Star City... Starling City back then, but I moved to Central City after the Undertaking to stay with my mother...” You explained, grimacing at Connor Rhodes paused as he walked by.

“What’s the Undertaking?” He questioned causing you to sigh.

“The Undertaking consisted of two earthquake machines planted under specific areas of Star City, The Glades. It was a poor, crime ridden area. One machine was deactivated by the Green Arrow, back then, the Hood with the help of my dad, the other device activated, killing 503 people including your doppelganger, Tommy Merlyn as he went to save my big sister from her collapsing workplace. The mastermind behind the scheme was Malcolm Merlyn, Tommy’s father as his wife and Tommy’s mother, Rebecca was mugged and shot, left to bleed out on the streets of the Glades.” You explained, clenching your jaw at the end.

“You’re saying Rhodes had a twin?” You rolled your eyes at the question, pulling your phone out to go through the camera roll.

“There, Tommy Merlyn with my sister, Laurel.” You stated, passing your phone to Connor. “That’s not creepy at all.” Connor remarked causing you to deadpan.

“How do you think I felt seeing you the first time, I thought I was seeing the ghost of my sister’s ex for a moment. Then I realised it was just more doppelgangers... uh long story...”

“So, Y/n...” Dr Halstead began causing you to roll your eyes.

“Yes I was there when the Particle Accelerator exploded in Central City, showering it in dark matter.” You deadpanned causing him to frown.

“How’d you know that? Do you have powers?” He questioned causing you to roll your eyes. “It’s a regular question as soon as someone mentions they’re from or were in Central around 2013.” You responded, clicking the biro pen in your hand several times before walking away.

“You didn’t answer my question? She didn’t answer my question, did she?” You just rolled your eyes, feeling Reese’s curiousity from a mile away.

The next time Dr Reese saw you, you were sat in the doctor’s lounge, your head in your hands as you focussed on your breathing.

“Y/n? You okay?” You flinched for a moment, glancing up before rubbing your eyes.

“Hi... Dr Reese... ” You acknowledged, letting out another breath before explaining. “After the particle accelerator explosion, I was affected...” You began to explain causing Reese to freeze.

“You have powers?” 

“I have power-dampeners from S.T.A.R. Labs in Central City... I just can’t wear them all the time but taking them off used to lead to a massive sensory overload back in 2013. I worked with some experts in meta-human powers to help me adjust to controlling my powers without the dampeners. I keep the dampeners with me though.” You reassured, gesturing to the bands around the tops of your forearms which you had switched back on as soon as you felt Reese's plan to approach.

“Do Dr Charles and Ms Goodwin know?” Reese questioned next causing you to nod.

“Meta-humans, post-crisis, have to register their powers if they want to work in certain professions, they’re also working on installing dampeners in areas off-grid in case of a meta-human attack since Chicago doesn’t have a team like Central City to help. There are meta-humans actually assisting the Chicago Police Department, part of my powers assessment involved me working with them as well. I also required approval to do my residency here and Dr Charles was interested in my powers, so...” You explained before you noticed Reese had moved closer.

“I can get you a copy of all the paper work if you want, but there’s going to be a memo and attached files sent out tonight to all staff about the three new metahuman staff members at Gaffney...” You elaborated, pausing as you realised Reese was sat across from you.

“What are your powers?” She asked next, causing you to pause as you messed with your phone.

“I’m an empath and telepath... I can sense emotions and read minds with permission of the person. The emotions thing is harder to block out but minds is easy. Emotions kinda radiate... sorry I’m rambling.” You admitted, glancing down at your hands before your eyes lingered on your arms, fingers trailing over your tattoos.

“Emotions radiate?” Reese prompted causing you to glance up.

“Sometimes it’s like a glow around a person if its a positive emotion...negative emotions are a bit more... sadness and grief ripple off people, anger kinda feels like vibrations, a low level earthquake, someone who doesn’t have emotions is just cold, it’s an empty feeling. Fear is like you can feel people shivering, shock or surprise is like a flicker or a flash... it’s weird but I’m used to feeling everything, especially in the hospital. When I first got my powers, I fainted a few times, sensory overload and migraines are also banes of my existence too but my powers help people if I have their permission to use them, so... yeah...”

Reese just nodded, causing you to pause.

“I’m not overwhelming you, am I?” 

“No, it’s interesting, actually, I’ve never been to Central City or Star City for that matter. I’ve not met many meta-humans.” Reese explained causing you to just shrug, sipping from your water bottle.

“Meta-humans are everywhere, good and bad, it’s just where and when the media portrays them that you find out about them.” You replied, revealing an article from The Central City Citizen.

“Flash Returns, Stops Crisis?”

“You ever want accurate meta-human news? Iris West-Allen and Central City Citizen is your go-to... I need to go check up on that patient, you coming?” You paused in the doorway, tilting your head to the side as Reese just nodded.

If you didn’t have your dampeners on, you would have sensed Reese’s interest in you...

“Y/n, I need your help with a patient, now. Dr Reese, you should observe this.” Dr Charles announced causing you to raise an eyebrow as you walked in.

“What kind of- whoah, okay, that!” You exclaimed, ducking the flying medical equipment. “Seems we have a meta-human patient whose powers have become unstable due the accident they were involved in.” Dr Charles explained causing you to nod, ducking another flying piece.

“We can’t get close enough to administer anything or even put the dampeners in place.” Dr Choi added causing you to withhold a “no shit” look as you approached.

“Hey...”

“I can’t make it stop. P-please, I can’t stop it!” 

You swallowed, processing what was going on before you spoke, moving before another object hit you. “I need your permission to use my powers of telepathy to figure out why your powers have become unstable, usually, it’s the trauma... but I need your permission to read your mind.” You explained, watching as the patient stared at you.

“You have powers too... I’m not alone...” The patient began to ramble causing you to grimace, whacking a flying bin away with your hands.

“I need your permission to read your mind. If you want to control your powers, we need to find the cause of why they’re unstable. Right now, there’s stuff flying, but if the range of your powers gets stronger, the people in the hospital are at risk.” You began to explain again but the patient finally answered.

“Do it, I give you permission to use your powers, stop this please, I don’t wannt hurt anyone!”

That was all you needed as you eyes changed colour from their regular e/c to a bright violet as you felt your powers activate and the dampeners on your arms turned off with your touch.

Dr Reese, Dr Choi and Dr Charles all stepped back as the objects in the hospital went from flying everywhere to just hoovering.

You grimaced as you slipped back out of the patient’s mind and back to your own, switching the dampeners back on, automatically.

“Dr Lance?” Reese questioned, seeing a weirdness in your eyes as you stepped out of the treatment room.

“Call CPD. Ask for Detective Lindsay then someone by the codename Starburst. It wasn’t an ordinary incident... Dr Charles, you need to talk to the patient themselves along with eye-witness intake to walk them back through it... I need to make a call to Central City.” You explained causing everyone to frown.

“Y/n... what’s going on?” Dr Choi enquired causing you to grimace, tapping away on your phone.

“My first thought was one of the Cicada’s but the Flash took them both down last year... this is a copycat using meta-tech. Hey, Ramon, I need some help in Chicago, we’ve got a meta-tech Cicada copycat.” You explained, turning away to down the phone.

It took a few days but Team Flash were able to obtain and destroy the meta-tech and Chicago P.D. were able to arrest the person using the tech to try kill meta-humans.

You were shaking as you stood outside the ED, waiting for Reese since you knew she was coming. You’d turned your dampeners off all day to stop a developing migraine yet your emotions were a mess as events replayed in your head.

Pre-crisis and post-crisis memories were floating about your head as a tear dripped down your face. Nadia Decotis died pre-crisis but you’d asked Oliver/Spectre last second to right that wrong. Your father was still dead and you weren’t sure about your sister, Earth 1 version anyway. Earth 2 Laurel had gone off on a mission and Sara was with the Legends. You still spoke to your mother over the phone but sometimes, you’d just break down over the phone, so, you stopped calling.

“Y/n?” You sniffled as you turned around, Reese frowning as she realised there were tears flooding down your face and how much you were shaking.

“Hey, what’s going on?” Reese began before she realised you were trembling.

“Right, okay, come on... let’s get you out of here.” Reese whispered, leading you away to drive you back to her apartment. You were curled up in the passenger seat when Reese pulled up.

“I’m sorry...” You whispered as Reese turned the engine off causing her to frown. “Don’t, don’t apologise... do you want to come inside or do I drive you to your apartment? I just don’t think you should be alone right now.” Reese stated causing you to just let out a breath as you followed Reese to her apartment.

“You remember how I would ramble about having two sets of memories right?” You asked after a while of just sitting in silence on Reese’s couch.

“Yeah, pre-crisis, post-crisis or something.” Reese replied causing you to nod.

“All roads lead to the Crisis but only one road led out of Crisis... some people’s fates were changed by that event, some people lived who died, people who were erased were brought back and some people chose their other choices... it’s overwhelming when I see how much changed... Nadia, Erin, you, Dr Charles, Connor and Ava, Laurel, Oliver... everthing... it’s too much...” You broke down in Sarah’s arms as she held you close to her.

You woke up the next day in Sarah’s arms causing you to just lean your head back into her neck, snuggling into her. You felt Sarah hum as she pulled you closer. You two of you swore as your alarms began to go off.

“Crap, we’re late...” Reese began to panic causing you to fall off the couch in your scramble to grab your bag. You watched Reese hurry to the bathroom as you washed your face in the kitchen sink, finding your travel toothbrush and toothpaste in your bag as Reese threw a shirt at you and ran back into her bedroom.

You swore more under your breath as you eyes landed on the clock, you quickly changed before you and Reese hurried to the ED.

“Everyone’s been staring at me all day...” Reese whispered causing you to just snort, continuing to tap away on your tablet.

“Yeah, I’m getting the same looks but also, everyone’s thinking the same thing to the point where they’re projecting their thoughts. They’re all wondering why I’m wearing your shirt. They think we’re either hooking up or dating. On that note, I have to go...” You remarked, hurrying over to help Dr Manning with a patient.

Reese paused for a moment before she ran after you causing you to turn around in confusion before Reese’s hands went to your face as she kissed you. Your mind blanked as you kissed back momentarily before realising everyone was either staring or waiting.

“Work... people...public...patient.” You mumbled as you and Reese both looked at each other with wide-eyes before hurrying to your work stations.

Your cheeks were bright pink as you hurried over to Dr Manning who raised an eyebrow at you.

Reese cleared her throat as Dr Charles raised an eyebrow at her.

“I won’t ask...” Dr Charles drawled causing Reese to just nod in appreciation.

“Doctor Y/n Lance, always trying to save the people.” A voice teased causing you to roll your eyes. Reese raised an eyebrow at you as you just glanced at the blonde entering.

“Laurel’s version’s still better. Uh, this is my sister, Sara Lance.” You explained to Reese. “So, this is Sarah...” Your sister began to tease.

“Dr Sarah Reese...” You interrupted causing your sister to shrug as Reese raised an eyebrow before realising. “Thought projection?” 

“Thought projection.” You answered causing Reese to just nod as Sara frowned.

“Your thoughts are so loud it’s like you’re shouting at me, also don’t. No. Say that out loud and I’ll tell Ava.” You growled causing Reese to take your hand.

“O-kay, I will not ask what Dr Reese’s intentions are with my baby sister.” Sara stated causing you to groan. “I’m going to order, you guys want anything lunch-wise?” You questioned causing Reese to just tapped her forehead causing you to just raise an eyebrow before nodding.

“Uh you know my order right?” Your sister asked causing you to raise an eyebrow. “This isn’t Big Belly Burger so you just want a cheese burger and chips?” You questioned your sister who just shrugged.

“Sure. Now, what are your intentions with my sister?” Sara asked as you walked up to order. You didn’t hear what your girlfriend had to say but Sara’s face suggested she approved.

You raised an eyebrow as you sat back down, fiddling with the receipt in your hand before Reese gently entwined her fingers with yours. You let out a breath as you leaned into Reese’s side.

“To Oliver and Felicity!”

Rene toasted so everyone, including you, raised your glasses of champagne in honour of the newly wed couple.

As everyone clapped, Pink’s ‘Raise Your Glass’ began playing and everyone started to dance. You watched for a minute as Dinah, your girlfriend, and Quentin, your father, danced together. You smiled at them and saw Oliver and Felicity standing above you all on the balcony.

Once you made your way to them, you congratulated the couple and asked to speak to Oliver alone.

You had known Oliver your entire life as he and your sisters grew up together and he even went out with both of them but, let’s just say, that didn’t turn out well. You had mourned him and Sara when the Gambit went down. You did so once again when he returned after 5 years but Sara didn’t. You celebrated when she finally returned and cried when you lost her again.

Part 1 | Sensitive Day |

It was a Tuesday at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as Dr Reese conducted her rounds with Dr Charles. You weren’t coming in until later but she was getting looks again. The same looks she got when you and her got together...

That made her suspicious.

Everyone was also looking at their phones in their breaks then glancing at her causing her to be even more suspicious. She was about to check her phone before realising it was out of battery, remembering how you’d told her to charge it last night.

“Okay, what is going on? You’re all giving me weird looks... again, last time you guys did that was when I kissed Y/n infront of everyone, the first time...” Reese questioned causing April and Maggie to exchange looks as Dr Halstead just smiled.

“You mean you’ve not seen Instagram?” He questioned causing Reese to groan quietly. “My phone’s out of battery...” She sighed causing Dr Halstead to exchange looks with Dr Manning before he passed his phone to Reese.

Reese’s voice made a weird squeak as her face flushed red, ears turning pink as she stared at the video on your instagram: DoctorVioletCanary3

It was you. Working out at the gym on a salmon ladder. In a sports bra and leggings. Then the screen turned around to reveal Sara Lance. 

“That’s my baby sister!”

“Shut. Up. Sara. Also...” You jumped down from the top of the ladder into a superhero landing. “Stop filming me.”

Reese’s mouth was hanging open as the video ended, choked noises escaping her before she realised you’d just walked in as everyone’s eyes were on you.

“Why is everyone staring at me?” You asked as you walked to your locker to hang up your coat.

“You not checked your own Instagram?” Maggie asked back causing you to grimace.

“My sister posted something on my account, didn’t she?... Babe, you okay?” You began but changed directions as you noticed how red-faced your girlfriend was.

“I, uh, um, s-s-salmon ladder...” 

You automatically cleared your throat as you listened to your girlfriend in her panic, quickly looking on your phone. 

“I’m going to retalliate against my sister, that I can confirm.” You stated, flicking through your photos for something before walking over and taking Reese’s hand, guiding her away from everyone.

It was later that night that you posted four photos on Instagram. One photo was of a 2 year old you with an 8 year old Sara and a 10 year old Laurel. Then a photo of you and your father at your graduation. Another was of two hot chocolates on a coffee table along with a pile of blankets. The final one was a photo Reese had taken of the two of you. You were kissing her cheek as Reese grinned into the camera.

You came to Chicago two weeks before you started your psychiatry residency at Gaffney. You had met up with Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders in a bar called Molly’s but you didn’t know that would be the first time Reese had ever seen you.

She was at Molly’s with Kim Burgess, Erin Lindsay and Leslie Shay when her eyes landed on you. 

As the conversation went on, Reese’s eyes kept drifting to you. Her eyes were drifting enough that it caught the eye of Shay, then Erin who exchanged looks as Kim raised an eyebrow.

“Okay, who are you checking out?” Shay enquired, causing Reese to glance down at her drink whilst the other three women glanced in the direction Reese was looking.

“Well, it’s either the married couple, Hermann or the cute girl in the denim jacket and beanie.” Erin remarked causing Reese to shift in her seat.

“It’s the cute girl with the denim jacket and beanie.” Kim affirmed, noticing how Reese was acting.

“Look! She’s going to the bar, go ask her out, get her number, be non-hetero!” Shay exclaimed causing Reese to just flush red as she realised she’d just been caught watching you.

You smiled softly to the woman who had been watching you from across the bar before lifting your glass to her with a quirked eyebrow.

Reese blushed pink causing the Erin, Kim and Shay to automatically look over at you but you were back to talking to Carter and Kendra with vivid hand movements before your phone began to go crazy.

Reese pouted subconsciously as she watched down your drink thenhug the couple before hurrying out. She noticed the anxiety on your face as you answered your phone.

“Damn, too late. She was cute too.” Shay remarked causing Reese to frown.

“She looked anxious answering the phone...”

Little did you or Reese know you’d be working together and falling for each other 2 weeks later...

It wasn’t a regular thing but some nights you had nightmares that your powers amplified. You were lying in bed, whimpering in your sleep. Your girlfriend heard this immediately as she was returning from her shift at the ED. She’d just left the bathroom and was about to climb into bed when she heard your whimpers, noticing how trashed the bedsheets were before you sprung up, wide awake and on the brink of a panic attack.

Luckily, Reese hadn’t had time to turn off the lights so she saw you immediately, recognising what was going on. She automatically slipped infront of you so you could see her as she began to coo, trying to calm you down with her voice.

You were receptive to your girlfriend’s coos, managing to prize your head from your knees as you looked up at her, trembling as the images flashed. You saw Sara fall as you and Laurel were forced to watch on, running over to your sister’s body, arrows sticking out of her. You were in the room when your sister, Laurel, flatlined and couldn’t come back. You didn’t understand how it happened, she was completely fine and recovering then... moments later, gone. You were standing in the waiting room with everyone else, waiting for your father to be done with surgery. Then it was revealed he was gone too.

Sara came back first but the trauma of seeing nearly your entire family die had an impact.

You launched yourself forwards in a moment of clarity from your distress, slamming to Reese, hugging her tightly as her arms wrapped around you and the two of you fell back onto the mattress. Your ear was pressed against Reese’s chest causing her to realise immediately what you were doing.

Fingers ran through your hair as your breathing rate and heart rate slowed back to normal levels.

Your girlfriend opened her mouth to speak, fingers lingering in your hair before you gently took her hand, playing with her fingers as you frowned to yourself, trying to speak.

“I see them sometimes... my sisters deaths, my dad’s death... it’s haunting that I couldn’t do anything back then... but in this post-crisis world, my sisters are alive and so is my dad... I even have two Laurels instead of one... one was the DA of Star City, now in Gotham as the crime rate of Star City plummeted after Oliver died... the other Laurel is the Black Canary, out there somewhere kicking ass. You’ve met Sara and my dad. You even met Oliver before he died...” You explained, playing with Reese’s fingers as she listened, resting her chin on the top of your head.

“I love you...” Reese whispered after a while, feeling you relax in her arms as she held you close.

You let out a breath as you stepped off the train into Star City Station as Reese hopped off behind you.

“This is Star City?” Reese questioned causing you to grimace momentarily before taking her hand and leading her out of the station.

“Yeah, let’s just get to where we need to be to meet my dad, Sara said it was important so...” You explained causing Reese to just nod, squeezing your hand in reassurance as the two of you headed towards who was picking you up.

“Laurel taking time out of her day as the district attorney to pick two Chicago doctors up from the train station?” You teased causing your E1 Laurel to roll her eyes as Reese just smiled in amusement before offering her hand.

“Sarah Reese.”

“Laurel Lance.”

You smiled as Reese shook hands with Laurel before Laurel guided the two of you to her car.

“Dad wants to talk to you and he wanted to meet Reese after Sara mentioned you had a girlfriend that even she approved of... I have to head out so I won’t be able to join you both, sadly ” Laurel explained,  glancing at you and Reese via the rear mirror causing you to just blush as Reese looked at you with a raised eyebrow and teasing smile. 

“You two make a cute couple.” 

You hummed, kissing Reese’s cheek as Laurel complimented the two of you.

“Also, Reese, hurt my baby sister and you’ll be in trouble, understand?”

“Jeez, Laurel, for a moment I thought you were E2 Laurel with the threats.” You remarked causing Laurel to give you a look in the rear mirror. “You’re baby Lance, what did you expect?”

“Baby Lance with a doctorate!” You grumbled causing Reese to just smirk, kissing your cheek at your flustered face.

As the car arrived at where your dad wanted to meet you and Reese, you paused, staring out of the window before realising your dad was stood outside waiting.

“Big Belly Burger?” Reese questioned causing you to grimace.

“I try to avoid them in Chicago, honestly.” You admitted, getting out of the car to hold the door open for Reese who rolled her eyes at you. You pouted in response before the two of you walked over to Quentin. Laurel honked the horn causing you to turn around in shock before she waved and drove off as your father waved.

“Y/n, it’s been a while, how are you, sweetie?... this is Reese, if I’m not mistaken?” your dad questioned causing you to just give him a deadpan look but you just smiled.

“Dr Sarah Reese, yes, it’s nice to meet you, Mr Lance.”

“Uh, Quentin, you can call me Quentin.”

The last time you saw Oliver. You didn’t see him, technically. You just saw his gravestone at the funeral at the Queen Mansion. You were standing alone when you saw them.
