Laeys rambleeeeee
Young Laeys are called Saedlings. The name is sort of self-explanatory, as they are born from seeds. When the Saedlings are old enough to go to their version of school, they fall under the next 'stage' of their life and are now called Laedents.
School lasts a minimum four years. More for those who don't do well, and, in very rare cases, less for those who do. By the time Laedents are able to leave school, they fall under the next category: Adulaes.
Adulaes have to choose their life partners next. Their main roles now are to have the next generation of Laeys and fulfill jobs. For Laedents who take longer in school, the situation in slightly different, but I'll talk about that in a second. Once they get old enough, Adulaes become the final stage of Laeys: Elaes.
Elaes are now one of the most important parts of Laeys society. Some become advisors to the Laey leader, but the rest care for abandoned seedlings or ones that can't be cared for by their parents.
Laedents who take longer to complete school are labeled differently. Once they get out, they're called Falidaes. Falidaes cannot have children or partners, but work mildly easier jobs. They are also the lowest in society when it comes to certain things/decisions.
For the advisor Elaes, they're collectively called The Council. The Royals are called just that.
Royals are usually chosen from birth. Previous Royals are forced to step down once they are in order to have all their time dedicated to making sure the next Royals are prepared to take over. For that year and a half period, their world is essentially 'on pause'. Due to the extreme vulnerability being 'on pause' causes for them, a few Laeys give their lives to become a shield of sorts.
'On pause' implies their world is frozen. The old Royals join their mystics/magic together in order to essentially freeze everyone. Excluding themselves and the new Royals of course.
A final thing about Royals, they don't choose their partners. The Council chooses it for them based on three specific criteria. One being that both partners had to be a Royal.
The Laeys have a variety of different things their magic can do. They can form items out of thin air, shapeshift, change their size at will (and other's at times too), and can heal. The only downside to having so many capabilities is that people want to exploit them. The healing specifically. Their magic, if used in the right amounts, can heal anything.
Late Laeys had been hunted, forced to shapeshift into anything they could to hide. Millenia later and that decision would save the small population.
For Laeys, death can come in a few different ways. Naturally, where their magic fades from their body. Forcefully, where their magic is leeched from their body. Or by fire, while magic fire they're immune to, normal fire can kill them.
If there's one rule Laeys have, it's anything bigger than them = bad.
Laey gender is determind mainly by colors. Females have significantly more vibrant colors while male's have more dim colors. Despite that, no matter the gender, Laey wings remain the same translucent yellow w/ green and pink patterns.
Adulaes/Falidaes are the size of the top of a typical human middle finger to the bottom of the palm. Laedents and Elaes are the size of the top of the finger to the middle of the palm. Saedlings are the size of the middle finger alone.
Royals are the only Laeys with pink leaves crowning their heads and magic dangling from their head leaves.
If a Laey's arms or legs get burned, cut off, or removed, they are able to grow back within a day or faster if absolutely necessary.
[Moving onto more Lemon specific things now]
I do kinda sorta, platonically… romantically… ship her with Leo…
She is a Royal, but, and not to be cliche here or anything, she isn't really taken seriously because she fell for someone bigger than them. She is the first one to have done that, so her people not only don't take her seriously but they fear her at times.
In addition to her percieved questionable romantic life, she holds a heavy collection of strange, sometimes mystical, creatures.
Lemon had previously had/followed the Royal partner rule, but after meeting Leo, her partner started growing jealous and lashing out at her when she began hanging out more with Leo than him. After Leo witnessed one of these lashings, he decided that that was one to much. If her partner was overly nice from then on, Leo didn't do it.
Her partner also ends up getting captured and doesn't come back, so Leo gives it a few months before making his move.
I have a little Misadventures of Lemon and Leo series because it is physically impossible for them to do anything together without finding trouble eventually. I do want one thing that goes wrong being her getting captured and used (maybe even more than once).
