Summary: A small blurb.
Pairing:
Joe and Ivy.
Author's note:
This is my first short in a very long time, I am a bit rusty. This is a small glimpse of who they were as children and how they came to be.
Enjoy!
Their very first interaction, her and Joe ever had - they were in the third grade - Ivy was new to the area, Joe was the blonde-haired boy who sat next to her in Ms. McCay’s third grade class. She was the girl with glasses, a small gap in between her teeth and various barrets and bubbles matching each and every outfit.
Joe had a knack for math, something Ivy often struggled with. When Ms. McCay wrote long rows of numbers on the board, Ivy’s stomach twisted. She stared at her worksheet until Joe leaned over.
“You just regroup here,” he whispered, tapping the page with his pencil. “See? It’s like borrowing.”
“Oh,” Ivy said, eyes lighting up. “That actually makes sense.”
“Told you,” he replied proudly. “Math’s easy once you don’t let it scare you.”

The loud noises of the cafeteria did not matter to him, the trays, the people shuffling in lines, kids shouting.
She was the only person who captured his attention.
“Do you want the crust?” Joe asked, holding up the edge of his slice.
She shook her head. “No, you can have it.”
He shrugged. “More for me, then.”
She slid a few rainbow Goldfish across the table. “Trade?”
“For pizza?” he laughed. “That’s not fair.”
“It is if you like Goldfish more,” she said seriously.
Joe considered it for a moment before nodding. “Deal.”
They talked about little things—big things, too, in the way only kids could.
“I wanna be a football player,” Joe said one afternoon, kicking his feet beneath the table. “Like, a really good one.”
Her brown eyes smiled as, he mentioned that.
"You're going to be great, you are already a good one." She nods.
And nothing else mattered in the moment, but their dreams and whatever was next in their lives.
