Alive Sage IS ghost Sage, just before she died. But ghost Sage has no memories of her life, and can never revisit that world or those people, she might as well be a new person! And I count them as different characters :] When alive, Sage was notably more naive but also nervous. She was new to human stuff, and approached all of it with wonder, but was also under threat of getting killed a lot. She a little sweetheart :3 And she only did like one or two murders.

The thing about ghosts is, they cling really hard to the mental state they were in when they died, to the point of going against their original personality. Like if they died by, say, being betrayed by a trusted friend, the ghost would be overly guarded and isolating. And sometimes, they'll forget really core parts of themselves, like being part dragon. Ghost Sage has no idea why she has a funny tail, she just thinks that's like a ghost thing. uhh and also ghost Sage doesn't give a shit about frogs so yeah COMPLETELY different.

BACK TO LABYRINTH TALK!!!! Okay, the original plan when I first made it past audition was: Sage gets roughly the same character development as her original canon where she becomes more jaded and cool with violence, her relationship with Seth gets strained and they have a little break-up, and before it can get resolved Seth dies, motivating Sage to listen to Azzy more and get herself killed. Literally the original plan had NEITHER making it to the fountain because I didn't think I'd get that far ><

Thennn there was another plan I came up with halfway through where we completely deviate from canon and Sage is the one that gets grievously injured or dies, and Seth does the last round himself to get to the fountain, and fails to save her and drinks it himself. And then he goes on to like become an epic immortal wizard and cure cancer or something idk. There was an idea I had as part of this, I can't remember if it Started as part of a winning route or as a spectator plot, but Seth was going to contract spirit rot too and end up in contact with Azzy, but successfully dodges his mindgame bullshit. I remember this explicitly because my friend joked about shipping Seth and Azzy, I still think about it. Ultimate crack ship.

Anyways, either way, at LEAST one of them had to die. Like, that was always the point of these characters. I designed ghost Sage first and wrote her backstory backwards, death is specter hanging over them always and all that. And his name is Azzy lol. I don't think there was any possible ending where Sage drinks the water. Unless Sage got some serious character development, Azzy would've always talked her out of it. Maybe if she did make it, she would've given it to the runner-up? But I also thought about Sage killing her last opponent...

Yeah no, I don't know how it would've played out.
