the calm before the storm
La Note (Berkeley, CA) - Since we were already sharing that awesome Brioche - which was ordered at my request - I wisely decided to order one thing, which was pancakes. Having had the oatmeal raspberry pancakes before (which my friend ordered that day), I decided to go with the creme fraiche. I really appreciate creme fraiche after making it at home. It can be sweet or savory. It’s a creamier version of sour cream and a little fattier, but it doesn’t have as strong of a sour flavor. I personally love mixing sweet and sour, so this was a great addition to my pancakes!
My friend ordered the Ratatouille with spicy lamb sausage. It’s a Provencal style vegetable stew with eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes and savory herbs sprinkled with fresh grated Parmesan cheese, served over rosemary couscous. I am very tempted to order this next time since it looked so good, especially with all of that grated cheese!
