Anonymous submitted question:
Can this be anonymous pretty please? I have been working on making my first coordinate and my problem is that I don’t feel elegant at all! I think my blouse and skirt look very elegant but the coord is just boring! I know I need more accessories but I don’t know what. Everything I do just looks so plain. I see all these lolitas in their super classic coords looking like elegant goddesses and i feel like a scrub! I did what the last anonymous person did and made an image with everything in my coord in it and i hope maybe you can help. I have everything in the picture already but i can buy more things or get rid of things if i have to. I started off with bodyline to save money but i can spend more.
Response from Lolita Tips:
First of all I want to thank you for making that picture! I love it when I get messages that have coord pictures like that because it’s not only easier for me to see everything together but also for everyone reading this! Of course I understand it may not be possible for everyone but it’s nice when it is. Anyway, I think what you have is a great base to work with but I do agree that you need more accessories. The first thing I would do is swap out the socks. They’re pretty plain, basic Lolita socks and you clearly want to elevate your coord and I think that’s one way to do it. I know I’m constantly suggesting lace tights but there’s a good reason for it, good quality ones look very elegant! Something like this would be very pretty and play well off the stripes in the print of the skirt. The one thing I think you’re ignoring that you should really take advantage of is all the beautiful colors of the skirt! The pinks of the roses and the purple of the ribbon could easily be brought in through jewelry. Maybe replace the cameo on the blouse with a cameo like this that includes that theme and coloring. You could also use other jewelry to tie in the theme like rings or earrings. If you want a very decadent look you could wear rings over lace gloves. I would also say to take a look at more options for your headwear. Just using a simple small rose is cute but it’s also quite plain. You could maybe do a larger bow like this in black or something more elaborate like this which would add a lot of interest. Something else you could potentially play around with is layering to add texture. You could perhaps add a black overdress or even a ruffled underskirt to give an elegant longer look. Aside from just the pieces you put into the coord, when you’re trying to make it look as elegant as possible you also have to be mindful of other elements such as your hair and makeup and the state of your clothes. Even if your coord is perfect, if your hair doesn’t suit it that could throw things off. Also take a look at whether or not your clothes look like they need ironed or steamed. A wrinkled skirt can very quickly take away from the elegant look you’re striving for.Â
I did a little bit of editing to your picture to give an idea of what everything looks like together (I cut out the petti because it’s implied that you’re going to need that and I needed the space):
Of course I don't expect you to copy this coord exactly, but hopefully it gives you some inspiration.
