I personally enjoyed the different tasks of the engagement of the last three weeks, but I felt a difficulty in having to move on and felt prevented from continuity, I love a good continuation of theme and personal growth and development, so this was a bit of a push, but if I continue to consider this first semester as an extended ‘exploratory stage’ like my foundation course, I may learn something new. 

It was interesting to see everyone’s responses to these things as well, everyone did something very different to what I would have expected, but I feel like the responses would have been better had they had a previous understanding of the task like I did - as some didn’t fully understand the task.

I didn’t mind these tasks, they were creative and fun and left a lot of room for interpretation. The drawing of a song was quite interesting as I drew myself without looking at the page and only looking in a mirror which continued the idea of the continuous line that I did for many other responses. I’ve also used the song the pugilist in many of my works as it is one of my favourite but most emotional songs. The drawing of the 6cm box has almost no meaning - I was simply drawing what I was watching at the time of doing these tasks, something I used to watch whenI was a kid but something I didn’t have to pay attention to and something that just randomly came up on YouTube because I watch a lot of documentaries.

I personally was not a fan of any of these text based things. First of all one of them, being the needle and thread one, was a little difficult and almost inaccessible as I don’t tend to carry a needle and thread with me. But maybe I should? They also just seem so bare and not very decorative, and the dishes one just seems too simple.

Though this task was quite interesting to see everyones responses, it was also quite daunting because I did an association with the amount of work that I have to do and can feel looming over me at all times, but more about that in my October MSR.

She later changed this to be cutting around words/phrases, and not necessarily every one, which I hadn’t done anyway as half way through I ran out of time (we designed the tasks to be around 15 minutes, and this took me an hour).  Though we weren’t supposed to have a fluent poem in some aspects, when I read this poem I think that it has some kind of meaning, and the way that the words flow is quite interesting. Though I wouldn’t class this as, for me, a type of finished art, I do see it as some kind of chance creation of a starting point or something to work from.

This instruction was; 1) draw a continuous line drawing without looking at the paper. This was an extremely simple process and instruction, and it is the one that I did in the last set of instructions as it was the girls instruction that I drew previously. I love how this turned out, and though I prefer work to be much more complicated then a simplistic line drawing, I do love the starting point.

I liked doing this one at first because I was attempting a friends style to look at something and not look down at the paper when I drew it. The reason I adopted this style is because she was the person who I was looking at and who was opposite me. I photographed the way it looked before I followed all of the other instructions because I didn’t want to lose how it looked, and though I do like how it is after I can’t say it’s something I see myself doing again, at least not in this style. I may do it to something easily reproducible though, like photography.
