15. …passionately

A notification pinged on her phone, pulling Marmalade away from her book as she clicked on the screen. Seeing that it was a message from Kyran, she sat up in bed as she eagerly unlocked her phone. It was a photo of Kyran on set in her queen costume, her trademark mischievous grin plastered on her face with La Voix (who looked like she was about to jump out of her skin) behind her. She smiled softly, saving the photo before typing out a reply.

M: What did you do to that poor woman?

K: Lollll We were resetting the scene and I was bored :)

She giggles before a familiar ache sets in. She misses Kyran — a lot. She was currently away filming a television show, leaving Marmalade all alone. Even though they talked all the time, she missed her girlfriend, even if she’d never admit that to her.

K: Are you going to bed soon?

Another message pinged. She knew what that meant — Kyran wanted to call, and even though she had been planning on going to bed soon, she figured it couldn’t hurt to put it off for a little while longer. She got out of bed, shrugging on one of Kyran’s jumpers as she made her way out of her bedroom and to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.

M: Not yet, why? Have something in mind?

K: Maybe ;) I really miss you. Your face, your touch, your voice — everything.

She softly smiles as she reads the message while waiting for her tea to heat up. She begins to type back ‘I miss you too’ but backspaces it. Hmm. Too sincere for text, maybe she should say something funny instead? “No…is that stupid? Christ.” She murmurs as her fingers ghost over her keyboard.

“What is?” Kyran’s voice comes from the living room.

“I’m trying to decide if I should call you gay or…” She trails off, her attention snapping up as it registers to her. Kyran’s voice. Either she was going crazy, or…

But right there, sat on the couch, was Kyran. Kyran with her stupid, shit-eating grin that Marmalade loved. She stood there, frozen in shock and jaw hanging open. Kyran stood up, and at the confirmation she wasn’t dreaming, Marmalade bounded over and tackled her into a hug.

Kyran laughed as she swept Marm into her arms, hugging her just as tightly. After a minute or so, she pulled back, her hand cupping Marm’s face. “Hey.” She softly giggled. “So, what were you saying?”

“What are you doing here? I thought you were filming for another week?” Marmalade asks, melting into Kyran’s touch. God, she had missed her so much, she almost couldn’t believe this was real.

“They had to pause filming for two days, so I thought it was the perfect time to surprise you.” She grins, looking at her softly. “I know it’s not nearly long enough, but…I couldn’t stay away any longer.”

“So why are we wasting time?” She murmurs as she pushes Kyran back onto the couch, straddling her lap. She pushes a strand of hair out of the other girl’s face, delicately cupping it. Almost as if she’s still a little afraid that she’s dreaming – but no, Kyran is here. And she’s real.

Marmalade leans in, gently kissing Kyran. Her lips are soft and taste like cherries, a taste she had been dreaming of for what has felt like ages. The fire inside of her burns bright as her kisses become hungrier and hungrier, desperate for Kyran. Kyran kisses her back with the same passion, her hands slipping under Marm’s jumper to pull her closer as she deepens the kiss.

Marmalade has to pull away after a few moments to catch her breath, her smile bright as she looks at her girlfriend. Kyran is beaming, too, her eyes shining as they sit in comfortable silence. Eventually, Kyran giggles. “What’s with the smile?”

She rolls her eyes. She knows exactly the reason why, but still, she decided to humour her. “I just missed you. That’s all.”

The second she sees Kyran’s mischievous grin appear, she knows what’s coming. “Aww, that’s gay.” She bursts into a fit of laughter as Marmalade groans, moving to get up. Kyran stops her, pulling her back down. “Nooo! I’m just kidding!” She laughs as she presses a gentle kiss against her lips. “I missed you, too, babe.”
