It all began 42 years ago in February 1979 while working and skating at the Del Mar Skate Ranch that I my roommate loaded a roll of Kodachrome 64 into his Canon AE1 and I shot my very first roll of skateboarding. I am often asked when I shot photos for the first time. This photo of Del Mar Skate Ranch local, Kyle Jensen in February, 1979 was the result of borrowing my roommate’s Canon. He loaded a roll of Kodachrome 64 slide film for me with the instructions, “Have your back to the sun.” I got the film back from the lab and after that I was hooked. I have been looking forward to 2019 arriving recently, this year marks my 40th year taking Skate Photos(any photos actually). In February 1979, I shot my first photo on my first roll of film of Kyle Jensen at the Del Mar Skate Ranch. With this first roll, my life was forever changed and I owe Photography, Skateboarding and my Skate Friends an immeasurable debt. Chance played a large part in getting me to this photo- getting a skateboard from Mom and Dad at for Christmas at 10 years old, starting surfing at 15 and then moving to Cardiff-by-the-Sea fresh out of High School, living next door to Pro skater, Wally Inouye who got me the job at Del Mar and then borrowing my roommate’s Canon. I am truly a Lucky Man!
