I find it interesting that Kyle Phillips doesn’t play Reki. His natural voice / most voices he does is really similar to the one Matt Shipman does for Reki as is, and he’s already (I believe) the voice director for the Sk8 dub…
Maybe there’s a rule against double-casting that I’m not aware of or they just wanted to give a job to another person or what, but it’s interesting. Plus, it would have been kind of funny to have the knowledge that Reki and Denki Kaminari from MHA share the same VAs in Japanese and English.
if you’re like me and you’re super duper grateful for how Daman Mills and Jonah Scott interpreted the characters of cherry and joe (enthusiastic queer-coding and all) in the sk8 dub then you ALSO need to be thanking Kyle Phillips and Christopher Wehkamp for their roles as dub directors. I cannot emphasize this enough. the directors are the ones who approve the voice acting interpretations and move their performances from booth to stream. they do not accept sub-par or badly interpreted performances no matter how fan service they are. unless I hear otherwise I’m going to say a hardy THANK YOU CHRIS WEHKAMP AND KYLE PHILLIPS!
