Lesbian Space Princess (2025, Australia)
Directors & Writers: Emma Hough Hobbs and Leela Varghese
Mini-review:
It's not every day that I come across a film as original as this. Not all of its ideas gel together well, but its unabashedly queer spirit makes for an infectious experience. The colorful animation suits the story like a glove, even with the obvious budget constraints, and the music is a delight as well. I particularly enjoyed the details in the background art, like the jokes and Easter eggs hidden in signs and such. Like I said, some of its ideas are kind of heavy-handed, but the setting more than makes up for that. Like, I can't really think of a movie that's even remotely similar to this one in that regard. Anyway, Lesbian Space Princess serves up a hilarious sapphic space adventure that's filled to the brim with creativity.
Lesbian Space Princess
Summary: Anxious and introverted Clitopian princess Saira (Shabana Azeez) goes on a quest to save her ex-girlfriend, Kiki (Bernie Van Tiel) after she is kidnapped.
Hilarious space romp that is packed with puns, and has refreshing ending and beautiful animation. Happy Pride!

i'm gonna premise this by saying i really don't want my reputation in this fandom to be that of a hater. but i also want you all to be aware of who and what you're supporting.
so for those of you who don't know, in my real life, i'm a drag performer. and not to doxx myself, but i used to work full time with kween kong. me and my best friend were honorary members of her haus, but we refused to take her last name. but i still called her mum, etc etc
anyway, with her being on global all stars, here's some things in reality you should know about her.
she's very racist. she wears box braids and says the n word FREELY despite not being black - she's tonganese. she's also attempted to be a voice for our first nations people even though she's not even from australia originally.
she's anti sex work - claiming she "saved" her daughter's off the street. even though they very much still do sex work and never stopped just bc she occasionally gave them low paying drag gigs.
as demonstrated on the show, if you ever disagree with her, she'll blow tf up at you. and often mobilise whoever is still talking to her to do the same.
she supports a queer bar in our city that employs a very well-known rapist, stacy queen. when she was first getting us to join her haus, she tried to play it off like she also hated them. now she talks them up and happily takes their gigs.
now there's very much more, but my time spent with her was a very difficult, very draining part of my life. that being said, feel free to reblog this post bc i do want people to know. plus our drag scene is dead, i don't run the risk of losing gigs or anything lmao
