Japanese sweets (wagashi): Taiyaki 鯛焼き
Taiyaki is a fish-shaped cake, with a soft filling: red bean paste, custard, chocolate, cheese, sweet potato...
It is made with pancake/waffle batter poured into a fish shaped mould in two halves which are then pressed together.
The fillings offered change with the season. In spring you can get cherry flavoured fillings in honour of cherry blossom season, or plums in summer.
These taiyaki are from Kurikoan in Akihabara, Tokyo. I had one filled with chocolate and it was delicious!
