#131 - Turn your ears here! (maybe bring earplugs to blunt the shockwave). Kunstzone
Iām still holding back a longer form post about Tryant Of Death for another occasion but that doesnāt mean I canāt write about related projects, right? So letās just search ourselves a seat, strap in and really push in that gas pedal until it grinds on ash-glazed and fallout-washed tarmac. Itās time to listen to some Kunstzone.
Kunstzone is a collaborative project between Alex Rise (whom you may know from aforementioned Tyrant Of Death and Psychotic Pulse) and Candy (the man behind President Streetwalker and Khaozone). What the collision of these two minds, melting Rises Black Metal- and Math Metal-infused, and Candys noisy Punk, Grindcore and a drop of Fear Factory -infused takes on Industrial Metal into one blazing ball, brings forth, sounds a bit like SYL and Anaal Nathrakh had a really mean āstepped-into-life-by-strangling-the-doctor-with-its-umbilical-cordā kind of baby. Ā
Since the start of the project, they have released two albums, the latest of whitch, āTHE ART OF MAKING THE EARTH UNINHABITABLEā actually dropped last Friday, quite uncelebratory but a long time coming. Both are rather short form but considering the type of music, the length is actually rather appropriate. The 6 regular songs on this one really donāt need more than about 30 minutes to make their mark and leave their impression on whatever happened to stand in their way.Ā
While both albums are top notch and heartily recommended, I do feel this latest one has a slightly better pacing and some more memorable moments. It refines rather than revolutionizes. But, honestly, revolutionizing wouldnāt really be necessary, as this projects sound already sits in a rather unique niche. Bridging multiple gaps between several, more older and more newer school, strains of Industrial Metal, offshoots like Industrial Black Metal and even showing some hints of Modern Metal here and there, wraps all the grit, noise, hammering, raging, exaggaration and elation found in the sounds of artists from Godflesh to Sybreed into one package without getting lost in hommages or references.
