Work Days: Morning Routine
Fareeha
04:30 - Wakes up and quietly slips out of bed to keep from waking Angela
04:35 - Has a glass of juice and then gets dressed for morning exercises
04:40 - Warms up with stretches, push ups and crunches
05:00 - Light indoor cardio exercise followed by a short run, usually five miles
06:00 - Strength training with varying muscle groups
06:30 - Pauses briefly and makes a mental note to patch a hole in the bedroom wall
07:00 - Starts making breakfast. She realizes Angela isn’t awake yet and starts some coffee
07:08 - Moves out of the way just in time to avoid being run over by Angela as she bolts through the kitchen door
07:09 - Kisses Angela good morning and then starts eating breakfast
07:16 - Discovers an entirely new use for a duvet
07:40 - Heads off to shower and change for work
08:30 - Leaves for work with twenty minutes to spare
Angela
04:30 - Wakes up when Fareeha gets out of bed. She hates it when she leaves but she pretends that she’s still asleep to keep her from feeling bad about waking her.
04:32 - Falls asleep again
06:30 - Alarm clock goes off
06:31 - Makes plans to order a new alarm clock to replace the one that she just threw across the room and smashed against the wall
06:32 - Argues with herself about whether or not she really needs to go to work today
06:38 - Considers a list of arguments that she could level at her superiors when they ask why she hasn’t shown up today
06:43 - Has composed a list of valid arguments supporting her decision to work from home today, specifically from her bed
06:44 - Realizes that Fareeha will never go for this
06:45 - Quickly prepares for her debate with Fareeha about working from home today
06:46 - Realizes that this will never work and instead prepares herself to fight to the death over her right to stay home today
06:48 - Completes mental planning for the construction of a pillow fort from which she will fight for her freedom. She is quite proud of her creative use of a duvet to replace concrete. Construction will begin after breakfast
06:51 - Starts to fall asleep again while wondering how advancements in technology since the dawn of humanity have utterly failed to produce an alarm clock that can survive being thrown at a wall
07:06 - Smells coffee and curses Fareeha’s devious plot to get her out of bed, knowing that she can’t resist the smell even if it means leaving the comfort of her duvet/future retaining wall
07:07 - Realizes that Fareeha will have just finished her morning exercises and imagines her glistening with perspiration with her workout clothes clinging to her
07:08 - Arrives in the kitchen. She is limping slightly after having stepped on a piece of the broken alarm clock; the injury is minor but was made more painful because she continued running through the pain
07:09 - Kisses Fareeha good morning and then pours cups of coffee for the both of them. She is still pouting after realizing that it was so cold this morning that Fareeha is wearing a thick hoodie and track pants
07:11 - Begins eating breakfast while making her formal declaration of war over her right to work from home
07:39 - Starts to get ready to go to work, having long since traded working from home for some of Fareeha’s eggs in the wartime negotiations. She trudges off to shower, cursing under her breath as she remembers the pain in her foot
08:53 - Stumbles out of her front door, still yawning and now cursing the sun for being so offensively bright so early in the morning. She will be at least thirty minutes late for work. By the time she arrives, she will have mentally completed the design for a new nanobot that can repair minor injuries to the skin and can be produced for roughly the same cost as a common alarm clock as it uses many of the same basic electronics on a much smaller scale. She will be heralded for her genius but only she and Fareeha will know that it only came to her in the shower as a desperate attempt to make waking up for work easier
