Amrit Baje from Chheskam! Chheskam is a small village on the lower east side of Solu, and home to the Kulung Rai community. Amrit Baje, the village head, is clad in tradititonal Kulung attire all made in Chheskam. Back in the days, the village was secluded from the rest of the world yet completley self-sufficient. Interestingly, everyone here speaks Kulung language, and children start speaking Nepali only after they start going to School. Wild nettle ("allo" in Nepali) has a long tradition in many parts of the midhills of Nepal. In the Kulung communities where we source our nettle fabric from a local cooperative, babies are wrapped in fabric of allo, hand-weaved by relatives, from the day they're born. We are helping promote these age-old skills and crafts through our product range. We use allo in our wild hemp yoga mats, nettle yoga mat bags and shopping bags.
