There would be no work to be done that day. The air-conditioning system didn’t work and sitting in the kitchen, next to the ovens and the flames, was impossible. That heatwave made it doubly difficult. Plus, there were no people around. What would they even do there?
Noria grabbed a bucket and walked around the kitchen, shoving in cut vegetables and anything else that would be thrown away, although it was only clean food, not any actual trash. When they didn’t look, she pulled a tupper out of her bag and shoved some food in there too, then quickly put it back in her bag.
“I’ll be waiting for the call, boss!” She shouted when she was done. “Yeah. Stay hydrated, Shira’lin.” Her boss answered from outside the kitchen.
She got out of the restaurant from the service door and walked to the next corner of the alley. She put the bucket down and looked around. Nothing, no one. She stuck two fingers in her mouth and whistled. And then she waited.
