Interesting to contrast that against our modern mythos of Big Blue.

Differences from the modern era.

-Kal-El spent time on Krypton as a toddler and as such remembers it.

-Mild Clark Kent is a fake persona, and the real one is Superman

-He's strong because earth has lower gravity, and the yellow sun gives him his other super powers.

-both of the Kents died when he was 18

-Any object from Krypton can harm him, not just Kryptonite (which is the deadliest because it's basically uranium) in addition, nearly every object from Krypton is indestructible under the yellow sun. Kryptonite is an exemption.

-Superman is an honorary member of every nation in the UN, allowing him to freely cross borders. Supergirl also has the is privilege.

-Superman can travel into the past or future by sheer speed alone.

-His brain constantly demands new challenges and new problems to solve. When he isn't on a mission he does research and painting and sculpting.

-He has vowed to never kill, and if he does, he'll retire.

Among the early Kryptonian Gods, Flamebird was charged by almighty Rao with constantly refreshing the world by burning down the new creations of her brother, Vohc-The-Builder. She did so, but there was no hostility between the two; Vohc was grateful that Flamebird constantly pushed him to reimagine his works. The two dieties were in love for a time.

However, to help his friend, Nightwing, Vohc made it possible for him to meet flamebird. As such those two fell in love. Vohc's next creation was a monument representing all of his love for Flamebird. While Flamebird truly admired and appreciated the work, she fulfilled her duty to Rao by burning it down. This time Vohc actually begged for this work to be saved, but Flamebird ignored him. This destroyed much of Vohc and changed him into Vohc-The-Breaker.

Tripedal Curosianiun

Also known as a 'Kryptonian Dragon', it is a gigantic prehistoric Kryptonian animal, approximately one mile long. In addition to its main head, it possesses smaller heads on its paws that can act fully independently from it even when it is unconscious. Despite its extremely large size, it is very fast and its prehensile tail is capable of swiftly and dexterously dealing with human-sized targets.

It seems to possess osteoderm plates similar to those of crocodilians covering most of its skin in addition to structures similar to feathers on its wings, paws, and heads.

Though it is cited as a prehistoric animal, Kara Zor-El does not find it odd for one to be alive in present-day Krypton, suggesting it is an example of a living fossil, such as coelacanths are on Earth.

Kal El was engineered to remove this factor, letting him survive.

Post-Byrne its interesting how they're recontextualizing Krypton as a place that had abandoned the arts- they weren't bad people, just cold people. They describe Jor-El & Lara Lor-Van as "The last true romantics of Krypton" because of their curiousity and willingness to express themselves

One of these days I'm going to make a compilation of the different comics art of Krypton popping because the imagery of an entire planet exploding is something that I feel has become more horrific with time and it's sort of reflected in the art.

interesting that the fashion of Krypton has moved so far from the tight spandex of the Gold/Silver Age, and it looks like it's mostly from the efforts of artist Dick Giordano and MW Kaluta. Its' starting to look more speculative.
