Teeth figure prominently in Edgar Allan Poe's horror-steeped March 1835 short story "Berenice", which was the inspiration for this creepy, beautifully stylized oil painting by @kremena.chipilova.⁣ ⁣ What made Poe a veritable master of his wordsmithing domain was the fact that in "Berenice" (as well as in countless other stories that he penned), he brilliantly **alluded** to a gruesome occurrence so that the reader would use their own imagination to manifest the scene.⁣ ⁣ Yes, in "Berenice", we KNOW the narrator suspects that his cousin's teeth are in the box, but reading the following line is what truly makes the chill sink into our bones:⁣ ⁣ "Why...did the hairs of my head erect themselves on end, and the blood of my body become congealed within my veins?" ⁣ ⁣ That is the spellbinding power of suggestion!⁣ ⁣ Love this work of art?
