“I am so sick of these meetings.” He-lectrix complained as the six wannabe supers exited the DevTech building.
“Really? I happen to think they are quite useful to all supers lacking experience.” Screech said, rotating his head backwards to look at his fellow super.
He-lectix jumped slightly. “Okay first off, you really need to warn people before you do that and secondly, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that new supers are being taught about safety and their own powers. All I’m saying is Winston should probably stop gushing over every single superhero from the glory days for the entire two hours.” He said, causing Voyd to snort in laughter beside him.
“Oh let him live He-lectrix. Superheroes are a big deal to him and we do kind of owe him for starting the movement to, you know, make us all legal.” Voyd said before elbowing him gently. “Besides, I thought you had your powers all under control, since you’re always bragging about how great you are.”
He-lectrix puffed out his chest and glanced up at the evening sky. “I’m afraid even I, He-lectrix, master of electricity, defender of humanity, and most gorgeous man alive, has trouble with his extraordinary abilities now and again.”
Voyd snorted again and placed a hand over her mouth to hold in the laughs. “Wow.” She whispered as the group walked down the steps.
“Better watch it He-lectrix. That ego or yours may get you in trouble.” Screech warned with a wide smile. He cocked his head to the side. “Someone may throw water on you while you are ranting about your good looks.”
“Ha ha. Real funny birdy. I never should have told any of you about that.” He-lectrix muttered, taking a second to stop walking so he could glare down at Screech. “Besides, I’m not the only with flaws in my powers. Voyd has to see where her portals are going. Blind the girl and her powers become obsolete.” He said, earning him an elbow to the side.
“Kindly leave me out of this, okay? I don’t feel like proving you both wrong about my powers.” Voyd said, folding her hands behind her back.
He-lectrix raised an eyebrow. “So are you trying to tell me that if we were to cover your eyes, you could still teleport both you and me to your destination without any problems?”
“That is exactly what I am saying. I don’t need to see to use my powers. They are based off of memorization and rational reasoning.”
He-lectrix crossed his arms. “Alright. Prove it.”
“Prove to use you can teleport without your eyes. Close your eyes and teleport us to the top of the Devtech building.” He-lectrix smirked. “I’ll even make a bet with you. If you can teleport us up there, I will go up to Winston and beg him to tell me everything about supers, and if you can’t get us both up there, then you have to personally give Elastigirl all of your fan letters from when you were little.” he confidently stuck out his hand to shake. “Deal?”
“I don’t know if that is safe.” Screech said as Krausher, Brick and Reflux sat down on the steps.
“C’mon Voyd. Are you going to let him win so easily?” The old man asked, raising his fist in the air.
“It’s fine Screech. We’ll have you fly around the top so you can catch us when we fall.” He-lectrix said before turning back towards Voyd who was staring at the top of the building, which was currently shrouded in thick clouds. She looked back towards the group with her own determined smile.
“Deal.” Voyd said as she grabbed his hand and shook it. “Prepare to be amazed, He-lectrix.”
He-lectrix bumped Screech lightly. “Don’t let us fall to our death, buddy.” He joked. Screech’s only reply was a single slightly raised eyebrow before stepping forward and taking off towards the building. His wings quickly shifted backwards slightly and they watched as he quickly ascended up into the clouds. He-lectrix moved closer to Voyd and set a hand on her shoulder and let her hand go, so she could direct the portals. “Ready when you are.”
Voyd let out a sigh through her nose as her brow furrowed in concentration and her eyes shut. Nothing happened for a few long moments and He-lectrix was about to call out his victory before the hard ground under his feet vanished and was replaced by the weightless energy of Voyd’s portal. As he felt their bodies begin to descend, he quickly squeezed his eyes shut to avoid staring at the bright blue light that made up her portals. As quickly as his feet left the ground, He-lectrix felt them touch down again. He opened his eyes just in time to wrap his arms around Voyd’s waist to pull her away from the edge of the building.
Immediately He-lectrix noticed the sharp breeze that blew their hair around rapidly, and the clouds that brushed passed around them. The sun ahead of them cast gorgeous rays of sunlight across the entire horizon. Glancing down, He-lectrix kicked his foot out to the side and watched a string of clouds wrap around his foot to continue their path. “Whoa.” He found himself saying as Voyd opened her own eyes. He heard her gasp and felt her body twist slightly in his arms.
“I did it. I actually did it.” Voyd said breathlessly; a mixture of awe at her own abilities and the stunning scenery around them.
“Yeah I guess you d-” He-lectrix began to say, turning back towards Voyd. His throat suddenly became dry as he gt a god look at the super he was holding on to. The sunlight shone behind her, causing her whole body to be framed in bright, golden light while the light breeze allowed her hair to gently fold into itself before splaying back out against her face, waiting for the next gust. Her eyes were practically shining as they scanned everything around them and her smile was still growing every moment she stared. “...did.”
Voyd glanced back up to He-lectrix as her smile stretched into a smirk. “It looks like someone is going to be spending the next month learning about supers.” she teased as He-lectrix rolled his eyes and looked anywhere but directly at Voyd,
“Right. I already know Gazerbeam liked the color blue. I don’t know why he has to mention it every single time.” He-lectrix muttered causing Voyd to snort in laughter again.
“Wow. I almost feel bad for you.”
He-lectrix just shrugged his shoulders. “Nah. I deserve it for doubting the stunning, powerful, Voyd.”
The blue-haired super let out another laugh as Screech flew up above the clouds and glanced down at the two. He stared at He-lectrix’s arms around Voyd for a few second before the other supers noticed the awkward appearance and stepped away from each other. “It looks like Voyd beat you, He-lectrix.”
“Go easy on him, Screech. He has a long speech ahead of him.” Voyd teased, which earned a sharp laugh from the flying super.
“I forgot how funny you two are.” He-lectrix sarcastically muttered as his feet once again were absorbed by weightless energy and he felt himself falling straight down onto the ground. The portal only dropped his a few feet off of the ground, but he still managed to fall flat on his face, while Voyd landed gracefully on her feet beside him. Screech was the last super to emerge from the portal and the birdman made sure he would step on He-lectrix at least once when exiting. He quickly made his way over to the other three supers to announce the winner, leaving He-lectrix to mutter to himself on the ground.
“Need some help?” Voyd asked, reaching a hand down to her friend. The blue portal above them disappeared as He-lectrix took her hand and hoisted himself up. They gave each other a small smile before large hands slapped them both on the back.
“Good bet. Had Brick on her toes the whole time.” Brick said before roughly patting their backs again.
“Thank you Brick.” Voyd said as they all began walking again; now that the excitement of the bet was over. It didn’t take long for everyone to reach their vehicles and say their goodbyes. Reflux was always quick to get into his car and get home from these meetings. He lived with his daughter, son-in-law, and three granddaughters, and it was always refreshing to see his old eyes light up when he talked about them all. Brick was normally the next to leave, in her massive truck that she still almost didn’t fit in, and Krausher and Screech quickly followed. Just like every other meeting, Voyd and He-lectrix were the last ones to leave, giving the pair a few brief moments alone.
“Don’t forget about the Winston thing.” Voyd said as she opened up her car door.
“I’ll talk to him next time we get called together, don’t you worry.” He-lectrix said, opening up his own door. “You’ll get to see my pain soon enough.”
“Goodbye He-lectrix.” Voyd said as she laughed. She then slid into her car, started the engine, took off her mask, put on a new shirt to hide her suit, and left with a final small wave to He-lectrix.
When He-lectrix finally sat down and got settled into his seat, it took him a few minutes to take off his mask and reach for the spare shirt in his car. His arms felt weak as he slowly buttoned up the shirt and brushed off any lint it had. He pushed the key into the ignition and was about to turn the car on before his body surged forward and his head landed on the horn. The image of Voyd at the top of the Devtech building was persistent in his mind and made his whole face become warm. He let out a long sigh before sitting back up, turning the key to start the car, and pulling out of the parking lot to begin the trip home.
(Winston has superhero meetings so he can only talk about his love for every single superheroes and I feel bad for anyone who have to sit through his two hour fan sessions.)
