Bheeshma Parvan trailer is making me cry.
A loneliness that I haven't known before, as if I am drained of all my will. Oh god, I've lost my laughter - Mathilukal (The Walls, 1990)

In the movie âMathilukalâ, Mammootty plays as Muhammad Basheer.
Mathilukal tells the story of Basheer, who is a political prisioner who falls in love with an inmate, Naryani. Throughout the story, Basheerâs character is smiply beautiful, just like the roses, he grew on the prison fields. Beautiful but also pricky. His character resembles the rose plant. We can see his emotions slowly changing. Basheer character is very political, poetic and spirtual. My favorite line from this movie would be the line when Basheer says, âA loneliness that I haven't known before. A strange fear. As if I am drained of all my will. Oh god, I've lost my laughter.â I feel that this line is exactly Basheerâs character is.
Towards the end, Basheer is free from his prison life. There is a love calling from Narayani, and there is no react. Now the same Basheer who came to the prison for the first and the basheer towards the end, is way too different. There is this sense of longing. Longing for what? Not politics or spirituality but love. The loneliess has consumed him, there is fear, and sadness that is longing for justice.
The question is that Is he the same person ? Or a very lonely person? Has love changed him.
