Yachiyoko from Yoshi-chô and Kotaka from Yanagibashi, ca. 1890. By the time these photos were taken, Yanagibashi already lost it’s top spot in the hanamachi prestige rankings to Shinbashi. Yanagibashi would decline further and further until there were no Geisha left. I found no source of the time when it happened, just that it was some time after 1906.
