Itās 2010. Everybody is doing their version of the Durarara ending. Everything is fine.

Just finished watching the documentary film āCon Artistā featuring Mark Kostabi, and wanted to share one of his works titled āFull Moon Quartet.ā I had a chance to visit āKostabi Worldā and meet him on a college class trip in 1989 and have always found him fascinating. #markkostabi #jazzquartet #painting #kostabi #art #kostabiworld #conartistmovie https://www.instagram.com/p/CLbCLnfF2Q0/?igshid=13f9ea8g09hlw
While I like Kostabiās command of color and lighting in his artwork, I canāt help but find his commentary on social media and how addicted we are to our screens a little tiring. Like...
This piece is called āThe New Vanityā, and itās one of many pieces heās created that shows a couple with phones out while fucking, as if to say āscreentime robs us of intimacyā, and I really just have to roll my eyes.
John Berger might have put it best in Ways of Seeing: āYou painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting āVanity,ā thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.ā
āSecret Truthsā. Hm. Yeah.
So I guess I could ignore these pieces and pay attention to him when heās not being so ham-fisted about this message. Or can I?
I guess not, because my reaction to this (āOnce Upon A Dreamā) is to read it as a commentary on intimacy and distance, metaphorical or otherwise, too.
I still have some insanely good paintings to sell by Mr. Mark Kostabi ... I selected these three because they are among my favorites and they are technology based. I have to guess that everyone knows someone in the technology field that would appreciate these pieces and might want to own them. Prices for these three range from 14,000 to 16,000. Please feel free to repost this. Share it. Recommend it. I like these pieces a lot and would really like to be the one who places them with their rightful collectors. Shamelessly looking for the right homes for these incredible pieces of art. I keep trying different ways to get the word out. PM or email. Link in bio or below.
