GROAN IS GIVEN AS HE AVOIDS HER TOUCH, pulls away so she can’t properly look at the bruises and cuts across his face. charlie st george doesn’t get into fights, that’s something well known throughout the outer banks, and yet here they are. so maybe he got in a little fight, and maybe he’d gotten a bit beat up, but it was important to note that at the very least he’d won. that’s probably not a comfort to her, though, especially since he hasn’t told her a single thing about what happened. he doesn’t want to admit to what happened, doesn’t want to have to say that he started a fight for almost no reason. gaze avoids hers, as if not looking at her will change her worry. “i’m fine. i don’t need you to look after me.”

THE FIGHT BAD BEEN BAD, not that charlie would admit as much. he’d been hit in the head, hard, and the resulting concussion meant that everything in his life seemed to be on hold. small groan escapes him as he lays back on the bed. so maybe he’s entirely aware that it’s bad, maybe he’s entirely aware of his own pain, but that won’t change the fact that he really doesn’t want to have to sit around forever doing nothing. “i’m fine, jaime.” but he knows that won’t be enough to stop her. “i’ve been hit in the head plenty of times before, i’ll be fine.” not comforting.

HE’S BEEN AN ASSHOLE. he knows that. he doesn’t want to be terrible, especially not to her, but he can’t control the way he gets when the withdrawals kick in, can’t stop the way his rage comes out. it’s something he’s been trying to work on, but it always hurts the ones he cares about most. she shouldn’t be so open to things being okay again, shouldn’t be so willing to just move past what he said, but if she’s so sure she wants to make things better, he’ll take it. “ i’m sorry. for everything. ” words are soft, genuine. he’s not entirely sure how ready he is to open up to her, but he knows that if he doesn’t then nothing will get better. “ i have... some issues that i haven’t told you about. ”

GAZE DRIFTS FROM THE WOUND TO HER, pretending blood doesn’t stain through clothes, pretending he’s not in immense pain. pretending things are fine, the typical clay way. head shakes gently. “ it’s not that bad, you don’t have t-- ” but her shirts already pulled off, already being pressed into his side. instinctual wince stops his attempts to be fine, gaze going anywhere except her. incredible how even in situations that could quite possibly be life or death he’s so easily flustered. “ i’m-- i’m really FINE. ”

BITTER LAUGH ESCAPES HIM, the kind of laugh that says nothing good can come from this. he’s impulsive by nature, always quick to do whatever first comes to mind. and unfortunately for everyone involved, the things that he jumps into during arguments is never the thing that’ll make it better. “ oh, babe, if that’s what you want ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS ASK. ” words are forced out to be sickeningly sweet, though the condescending undertones are obvious. now’s certainly not the time for dirty jokes, but he just has so much fun trying to rile her up. “ really though? FUCK YOU? that’s the best you got? come on, jaime, aren’t kooks meant to have better insults than that? ”

IT’S RARE THAT THEY ARGUE, though as of late charlie seems to be picking fights with everyone. he’s on a downward spiral, one that basically anyone could see. at this point his concern for his reputation was out the window, no longer bothering to hide harsh edges. it seemed that he was no longer concerned with other peoples thoughts of him, nor his own thoughts of himself. and he knows, HE KNOWS, he shouldn’t pick fights with her. he knows that of all the people in his life she’s the one he’s always wanted to protect most from this side of him, but it doesn’t really work out that way now. all inhibitions released, everything’s coming out. it doesn’t matter how much he may regret his words later, for now the words flow out without a care in the world. “ did you ever stop to think that i don’t CARE about your FUCKING feelings?! ”

Her hands rested on the waistband of her high waisted jean shorts, atop that was a black bikini top and her open buttoned, short sleeved ‘ hawaiian ‘ print shirt. She felt very vacation mode. Probably looked like a tourists with her sunglasses and all. Still, her attitude was one of confidence and no-fucks-given, so maybe some of these fellow rich kids would share a coveted Outer Banks secret.
