I’ve been wondering about that too! I didn‘t notice it was him in last month’s chapter until it was too late, so to speak. Well, guess this way they managed to surprise me with something I already knew would happen... since only when he died I realised this guy was supposed to be Komikron... Interestingly, I went back to the previous chapter to see that the (present day) panels featuring him were changed from showing him with long hair to the short haired version of his. He almost looks like Kiriranshero like this orz

Anyway, I looked into the Orphen wiki and didn’t find a single hint at him having cut his hair some time between Pre-Orphen and Haguretabi. It does say he used to wear his hair in braids “during his school years”, but at the same time his article never mentions a haircut. Additionally, I have never seen fanart of him with short hair, even the stuff that shows him in more-or-less present day (more like Mubohen-times, which is just a few months before) always has him with braids.
