When I start using certain tokens or miniatures for a character or a creature, it affects how I think of them. Bringing out Orc With Spear to represent the king will mean something, you know? If someone is really important, they get a unique image on roll20 (other chumps get stuck with the free tokens).
One of my PCs, Kolbas, is the only real mini I have. All the others are lego people, but Kolbas is a 3d printed dragonborn who has broken twice. I haven’t played that character in years but the little figurine still makes me remember a lot of good times. It’s a lot of fun to play with a new group and pick out a model from their collection, too.
