i caved in and got an instagram.

my mum has four daughters and out of all of us, the only one that seemingly forgot her birthday this year was me. the last time our entire family was together for her birthday was in 2008. 

it's been a while now since i completely lost track of time. i honestly can't remember the last time i woke up knowing what day of the week it was. this year, in the craze of people leaving, packing, cleaning, moving out, and travelling, may 22nd slipped right past me. my sister had chatted me asking if i could send her some photos for mum's birthday card, but i was in the middle of packing up 5 years of my life. i mentally noted it as something i would get to later. i never got to it.

on may 22nd, i sent my mum an email, but it wasn't a happy birthday email. her reply was something along the lines of "i thought this was going to be a happy birthday message. despite how busy life might be, you should try to remember my and dad's birthdays." korean doesn't translate to english nicely, but i was feeling like the worst daughter ever until my sister told me that my mum jokingly sent that email after having a really great birthday. this is no excuse to rid myself of blame, but i'm not going to fall for her guilt-tripping trickery again.
