@knowledgesought asked: “ face it, i know you better than anyone else. ” / for oz, ozma, or any variation therein.
After everything that had happened with Salem…., Ozma had had to come to terms with the fact that he was going to have to fight the woman he had once loved. Though part of him wondered just how long that woman had been gone. He'd thought that part of her had still been present when he'd first returned, but…., the god of Light's warning still rang in his ears. He had not truly known to what he was agreeing…., a mistake that would forever haunt him.
Because no matter what happened to him now…., as long as Salem lived…, so would he. And he was going to have to learn from his mistakes, so that he would not let the world down again.
But he knew he was just a man…., and not even a very good one, and he would make more mistakes than any man, woman, or child who had ever lived. He just had to hope they weren't as costly as his first ones. And it was those mistakes that he would never be able to correct.
He had failed his daughters so completely…., and he could never make it up to them. Ozma's heart still ached when he thought about them. He had tried to save them…., but in the end, they had paid the price for his failure.
Ozma had summoned Jinn, intending to ask her a question, but instead he just stood, lost in thought, sorrow practically radiating from him.
He looked up as she spoke, offering her a sad, tired smile. "I don't doubt that," he replied, his voice calm and collected, even with the undercurrent of sadness running through it. "You're the only one who's been there through….so many lives." And though he could only ask three questions every one hundred years…., there hadn't been any limitations on conversation, a loophole he occasionally exploited, especially when he felt particularly in need of company who wouldn't judge him for the things he'd done, the things he'd been through.
