#knitting fork

I don't like most of the fidget toys but I think I found the perfect thing for me. I could never get the hang of knitting or crochet - I can never remember my count, where I left off or sometimes what I was intending to make in the first place.

This is a knitting fork, or lucet. It's pretty much one stitch and very easy to pick up. It's the only yarn craft I've been able to do without thinking too much about it. Just the same smooth motion over and over, turning the fork methodically in your hand and guiding the thread with the other. You end up with a nice strong cord that can be used in lots of other crafts or useful purposes.

Lucet braiding with 550 cord .

 My wife has recently been getting into Lucet braiding for her jewelry making and when I saw the technique asked if she would have a go with some 550 para-cord to see how it would turn out for tactical man knitting

Lucet is an old Viking/ Medieval  technique for making cordage ,please see here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucet , they utilized bone knitting 'forks' as they were hollow to help twist the cords together.

Modern Lucet knitting forks are generally made from wood but my wife fashioned this simple version from an old recycled wooden spoon to try out the technique and there are many 'how too' tutorials available on Youtube .

 She made me up this easily carried loop of 17 feet of coyote brown 550 cord that I then fitted safety break away cord-locks to either end to keep the loop together .

 When the time comes to utilize the cord , simply unsnap the break away cord- locks . Push the male connector back through 2 of the loops that have held the un -knotted end in place and give it a pull.
