“There she was, standing amidst the other slaves, all clad in the rarest of bejewelled silks and dripping with precious stones in a gaudy display of royal wealth. She was the only one wore red, a flare of fire in the dark, a streak of blood in the snow and the rubies on her brow twinkled like stars. Her eyes were stormy though, grey as sky in winter but edged in something close to distain. Disgust, perhaps. Argoen watched her watch the room, brow furrowed in rage. He half agreed with her, the days in which his father paraded the slaves of his harem around the court were days he actively tried to avoid. 

Her face was not a soft one, any more that her body was soft and Argoen found himself analysing her. The silk that she wore left nothing to his imagination and he hated it. It hugged the hard muscle of her stomach and her arms. Argoen knew she was strong and did not need to be reminded of it, he had seen it first hand the day she had snapped the guards spear in half and tried to run his father through with it. 

The thought made him smile though, a grin he hid behind the lip of a raised wine goblet.

Val was a woman of strong lines and high bones, and that made for a good and handsome face, but hard, so hard. What made her beautiful was the etchings of fury on a proud brow, the way a ruby tinted lip pursed in disapproval of everything around her. What made her beautiful was her rage, a hurricane tearing through a usually calm court.

She stood as straight as spear, her hair scooped back from her lovely face in a series of complicated twists save for the few wisps that hung down by her ears. The inky black of her curls hid rubies and pearls which caught the light of the heavy braziers that hung overhead. Argoen had seen woman of greater beauty, that was for sure, but she had never seen someone as captivating as Val. I dream and when i do it’s of her, Argoen thought idly back to his conversation with Harkin, unable to tear his eyes from the woman in red, and i hate her for it.”
