Paloma can't help the small smile that tugs at her lips, even as she scoffs at him. Even as she rolls her eyes. It was almost infuriating, because he was right. Whenever they were apart, she missed him. Both the good and the bad. Sure, they could tear each other down, but he also still had her heart tied in knots.

Freckled fists clench hard against her sides, lips press ever so firmly to prevent the scream of frustration that wanted to be released. He is so annoying! Sarah closed her eyelids, taking in a few deep breaths. Lucy, I'm home. Lucy, I'm home. Her fists briefly shook. The calmness took in its place in her mind, clenched fists became relaxed as her hands held together gently. It's okay. It's okay. Everything is fine.

She doesn't know why the words sting so much. Was it because she knew there was truth to them? Her love was like a knife, she only ever knew how to gut someone or carve her way inside of them. Paloma lived in extremes, loved the same way too. Whether it be emotional or physical, the two of them were always leaving bruises, cutting into one another -- pouring salt into the wounds.
