A streamside dialogue tape on why ethical right action is always difficult, frequently taking the form of negation, of simply NOT DOING things we are tacitly strongly attached to. The 100 MINIATURES slideshow I refer to is at picture-poems.com/100

ON “THE DICE FALL...”
The geometry of life is not two guns pointed at each other, is not a game of winners and the losers; It is a circle. We are all brothers and sister, you and I, the rock, the river, the sky. This circle of life which is the ground, the source of democracy, is based on the relationship of radical equality.
Why do we not see this?
Out during wilderness photography fieldwork, documenting the decline of a signature species-–the Whitebark Pines, great Nestor of the Pacific Northwest––I ask the simple question: are they a part of this geometry of life, this great circle of Democracy?
Packing out today, I pause to write down this piece, with the Whitebarks in mind, this 5 of July, 2018. It is hot. It is bone dry. And the sky is filled with smoke, as far as the eye can see.
