it's the mash up of 'klaroline' and 'retard'
See, my dear friend, a while ago there were angry people, people who didn't know what a true ship to be, people whose otp involved one half klaus but not caroline.Â
You see, anon, they were missing out on caroline. they didn't understand her and they didn't understand klaroline, so they got very angry with all the klaroline shippers.
We are a huge and powerful fandom, we tend to intimidate the lower half of the vampire diaries fandom and often the staff and writers. They hated us and they hated our power and size. Â Â
So they started calling us names, klarotard being one of them. But us 'klarotards' wouldn't lie down and take it, we took the name and turned it from something negative to something positive.Â

a while ago, an anon told one of the klaroliners, she was a retard(very insulting and degrading) and that klaroliner and others turned it to a not-so-insulting and from that moment we called us klarotards (the same thing happened with klarogang too)
