i'm always delighted to see your icon, a cheerful drop of yellow on my dark mode dash. (and it was such a relief when you dipped back in for an update after an absence - you're one of the moots i often think about/hope life is being kind to.) you have such interesting and unique thoughts about art, in all its endless mediums. your tags are like a tiny stained glass window peek into a thought process i always want to know a little more about, like nosily peering into a cathedral. you make me think of those big open scandi or japanese flats crammed with books and natural light and records.

dissertation topic was nonwhite women in "colorblind" musical theater productions - basically i argued that these women occupy a unique positioning onstage where the intersection of race and gender might generate "against the grain" readings of the larger text. close readings! reparative readings! discussion of the collapse between actor and character in the liminal space of a singular performance! i wanted to interrogate the potential of these performances to broaden our capacity to imagine ways of Being outside of our current white, heteropatriarchal norms, while acknowledging that often the "text" as a whole reifies those norms as part of the medium's reliance on capitalism.
