He’d stolen from the Spirit World’s vault for fun, to prove that he could still steal on a level he was used to. But the hounds had been set on him during his escape. Maybe he wasn’t back to full strength just yet if he missed on stupid trigger. Or maybe another thief had let them know the vault’s weaknesses.

Either way, Kuronue found himself hunted. He was enjoying the thrill nonetheless. He heard someone enter the room he’d finally come to a halt in. “Now why are you ruining all my fun?” The bat questioned, a laugh in his voice.

Oh. Shit. Had he said that out loud? That was completely unlike him. It was rare the times Touya felt an emotion such as sheepishness, but it thundered down his back like hail at this very moment. Especially in front of someone like Kurama, someone he’d made clear he wished to befriend. He blinked once. Then again, before glancing down at the milk carton in his hand. It clearly displayed on the label ‘Lite Milk,’ and he shrugged - a human gesture he’d picked up on recently.

                  ❝ you’re some-- gardener or something ? i’ve never seen flowers grow that fast so-- you’ve probably got one hell of a green thumb. ❞ come to think of it, he’s never actually seen flowers grow. one moment they’re seed and the next-- sprouts, and every later still-- flowers. if anyone even thought of giving him the taste of cultivating flowers, it was just asking for trouble. ❝ how’d you do that ? ❞

Kouya took a deep breath, fingers clenching anxiously as he tried very hard to find the right words that wouldn’t be difficult to say. So many of them were hard to say, at least to Kurama. “So. Obviously... mother is.... a woman of a certain sort of... very, very strange...” This was hard. “She loves us. For some reason. Unconditionally. To the point she’d not even mad we hurt her.” However accidentally. It was still their roughhousing that had caused her to get hurt, and their arguing that caused her pain. “And, she’s done a lot for us. Even if we’ve been little shits.” Which they had. They were foxes, that was what they did, at any age.

Shiori hummed softly to herself as she carefully pulled burrs from Hibiki’s fur. The fox was patient, intelligent eyes half-closed from the careful attention. The sound of a sliding door broke the peace between witch and her familiar. One moment there was a silver-white fox carefully being groomed and in the next moment, in a brief, gentle gold cocoon of energy, she was gone.
