He assured her as best he could given his current position and hung up the phone. Evan had evaded traffic expertly and made it to her street in record time. They’d be hunting down some leads, but it looked like she didn’t quite shake off her tail. And she sill happened to be a valuable asset he couldn’t afford to lose.
Having skidded to a parallel park on the nearly empty street, Evan practically jumped out of the car as soon as the roar of the engine subsided. Only to feel a hard knock to the back of his head. Before Evan could fully evaluate the threat Evan found the knife in his hand had already made contact with the masked stranger’s jugular.
White masks? What the fuck was this? Taking in his surroundings without a second thought Evan pulled out the knife and made to bolt for the back of the house as quietly as he could. He reached for the gun tucked into the back of his jeans and held it in his dominant hand, the safety making a clicking sound as he prepared himself for whatever was to come.
The night was quiet, ominously so.
