Jinja SS secured the trophy through a penalty shootout after normal play ended with a 1 all draw. Jinja SS led the scoreboard with a goal in the 60th minute of the game missing several other attempts to stretch the lead. Kitende equalized in the 80th minute of the game.
Jinja Secondary School is crowned 2017 Copa Coca-Cola 2017 Post Primary Champions after defeating St Mary’s College Kitende 4-3 in a match played this evening.
Jinja SS secured the trophy through a penalty shootout after normal play ended with a 1 all draw. Jinja SS led the scoreboard with a goal in the 60th minute of the game missing several other attempts to stretch the lead. Kitende equalized in the 80th minute of the game.
The goal triggered a mini protest on the pitch when players argued that one of Kitende’s players was offside. Despite the protest, the referee called for a shootout which gave Jinja SS the edge after Kitende missed two vital penalties.
Joel Madondo, says Jinja SS deserved victory given their professional and tactical display of talent since the beginning of the competition. Earlier 2016 champions Kibuli secondary school defeated Nakaseke International School 1-0 in the playoff.
Rafael Bwire, the National Chairperson of Copa Coke Cola School tournament says the tournament was successful save for the rainy season which soaked all the pitches making them murky.
State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi expressed excitement at the level of talent and skills displayed by the players throughout the tournament. He noted that Uganda has enormous talents which must be identified and prepared to play for the national team in future.
