kinggorilla replied to your post βThank you for answering my asks! I always thought the βI knowβ wasβ¦β
If I may, I hate that βI knowβ more than possibly anything else in the Stargate canon. It had taken years, literally YEARS for Carter to psyche herself up enough to broach the topic. However the conversation would have gone, SHE NEEDED TO SAY IT OUT LOUD. Psychologically, she needed to hear the words come out of her own mouth. I greatly feared that by not doing tgat, they were doing tremendous damage to their relationship down the line. Sorry about the soapbox.
so I saved this because I wanted to reply later, but then I got distracted and well, here we are. Better late than never, eh?
I get what you mean, but think about it this way. Sam didn't actually choose to say it. Jack living on borrowed time forced her to confront her feelings for him and to think about losing him. About giving up on their "maybe someday" for good. If he wasn't dying because of that head sucking ancient device, it's more than likely that Sam wouldn't have done it
when "lost city" happens, she's 'happily' playing house with pete. At that moment, as much as I hate it, she's actively making a choice to not think of Jack as her safe bet and she's actually having a life that she, apparently, wants
(s6!Sam is judging her future selfβs choices)
but even though it wasn't really her choice to talk about their, or rather her, feelings, I agree that she needed to just keep going and say it
what does annoy me, is that afterwards Sam still stays with pete. After pretty much telling Jack that saving the world wouldn't be worth losing him. After coming to him on the ship to clarify her words at his house. After actually losing him and, judging by "new order", spending a lot of time if not fighting to save him, but at least constantly thinking about it. After, for fuck's sake, not buying or even hating the living on a farm with pete fantasy created by Firth. I know it couldn't have gone down any other way, it's will they won't they for ya, plus any definitive answer would've alienated a lot of fans, but it still annoys me
as for Jack saying I know,Β well, he was just trying to protect her.Β That's what they do, they protect each other, always
