In the past I had two big local charities approach me and commit to fund our homeless soup kitchen operations in full. They never delivered despite repeatedly making contact, confirming and going off radar. Thankfully, I never fell for it and wasn’t found sitting on the window ledge waiting on them to green light this hugely necessary outreach venture. I don’t work that way or this humble project would have been waiting patiently for a help that would never have materialised. These guys may be handling millions of pounds of donations but they don’t have a clue when it comes to what motivates and drives the grassroots when it comes to delivering community projects. They are a reflection of many small community teams that are struggling for money but have a terrier like spirit to do what’s best for the people. They work with massive money and pounds and shillings are not really of interest. But they sometimes throw scraps to the paupers as it represents bad PR otherwise. They don’t stay awake at night worrying about where £50 will come from for the next homeless feed. Domestic causes are not glamorous enough even though even though the majority of donors are from that demographic. Sadly they are really out of touch. The philosophy has always been to make a sincere intention for the purpose at hand, have full faulty and take those steps. It’s served me well with so many well wishers from friends, family and colleagues piling on some phenomenal support. This team has no funds in the account but each member is consistent, determined, dogged and single minded in their desire to make a difference.
