Since I shared all the progress pictures I figure I should share this one too. This was earlier last week but I had to take some time out and be sad about it before I shared this publicly. I had dried the gnome out really well in front of a fan but it was still a thick piece and even with a long preheat and slow fire, it was too fast, so Mr Gnome exploded. A lot. I haven't done this in a long time but I have blown up many things over the course of my ceramic endeavors. I do a lot of risky stuff with clay, which is why I can make crazy cool stuff, but can also lead to loss like this. I'm going to redo it, because it's a commission, but for now I'm still a bit sad about this guy. 😢 #explodinggnomes #gnomey #kilndisaster
