I am still processing all of what happened. This, right here, is why I have learned to value experiences over objects: Years ago, all the way back to the MySpace era, when I was in a dark, desolate place in my life, I found a song. Through a series of perfectly placed circumstances, I stumbled into what would become a ten-year (and beyond) love affair with the soothing tenor voice of one incredible songwriter. But it all started with one song and that song will forever be one of the #songsthatsavedmylife It was about four years later, I had the chance to meet this band that had quickly taught my what it really meant to have a #favoriteband The meeting ended up being only their guitarist and the owner of that voice that had drawn me in so deeply. We had only a few brief moments of conversation in that first encounter but it was enough for me to steel myself with the determination that we could, and would, one day be friends. Yesterday, after months of planning, I spent a day with that friend, as friends. I am constantly still in awe of how that had progressed to what it is now; in many ways it doesn't feel like real life. I guess that means there is still a bit of the old #fangirl hiding away. But I think that helps keep me to the #music that started all of this in the first place. The is a blurry distinction between the love you have for any kind of art, as a fan of the art itself, and the love you have for the artist who created it, when that artist is more to you than just a headshot or persona on a stage. You can support everything your friend produces because it came from someone about whom you care, but not genuinely, viscerally love the art itself, for what it is alone, separate from its creator.
