New York based Kilcool is taking over 2019 with this intriguing form of Indie laced music. The brainchild of musician Owen Smith, this year saw the release of his epic new LP, "Low Tide," which is streaming now on all digital platforms. Smith who brings his own unique elements to the table, proves time and time again he's a name worth watching in the coming months. We sat down with Owen of Kilcool for a look inside of his music and vision as we wander into the Fall.

1. What is the inspiration behind your latest recordand did you draw the piece from a personal place? Yea definitely. I feel like going from producing beats exclusively to writing full length songs lyrics are incredibly important and probably the hardest part. It’s so easy to write filler lyrics that don’t mean anything so generally I try to draw draw inspiration from real emotion. In the case of “My Way Home” the situation is hypothetical but the emotion is there and it’s drawn from a real place. 2. When creating new songs, how long did it take to accomplish from start to finish? Depends entirely on the song. “My Way Home” took a week to finish entirely. But the shell of the song took me about a day. At the same time I have songs on my album “Low Tide” that I had basically done sitting in the vault for like 2 years that I kept going back to and tweaking. 3. At what age did you realize that music is a career you wanted topursue; what was your 'ah-ha' moment? Music has been my primary focus for basically my entire life. I joined a chorus at age 8 that I ended up staying in till I was 18, at the same time I started playing Trombone in school and violin on my own. Eventually I picked up piano and started making beats in high school. I went to Laguardia High School for Arts and Berklee College of Music for 2 years. I always felt like I wanted to be on the sidelines though. I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to be the front man until I turned 21 and was like ‘ok I’m getting old now time to put some real work in’. 4. Who are your musical inspirations; what artists inspired you to start your career and find your musical passion? I started making beats as my main musical output so at first Pharrell, Just Blaze, Flume, Flying Lotus, Kanye West and a bunch of other Soundcloud guys. As I started singing more on my tracks I think I definitely gained a greater appreciation for the music I listened to growing up like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Sting, Hall & Oates etc. 5. What other treats do you have in store for us This year? Can we expect more videos or a full tour? I have a ton of new music that I’m finishing up now, so I’ll probably be releasing that in increments as singles and then maybe an EP next summer or something like that. As far as the tour goes we have a show in November in NY and then a couple of other things lined up for 2020. Stay Tuned!

KILCOOL FEAT. JAMAL MARCELIN - I CAN'T LET GO

As you know , our main aim is to support independent and rising artists and provide our audience with what we consider quality music. Recently our staff stumbled upon the interesting music performed by Owen KilCooley aka KilCool. The New York native is a multi-instrumentalist ,arranger,producer and songwriter whose music can be described as a colorful kaleidoscope of genres that encompasses electronica,chillwave,hip-hop,rnb,soul and jazz. Recently KilCool dropped the project entitled KilCool Part.1 that includes the superb and refined neo-soul-esque piece called I Can’t Let Go. The compelling track is a collaboration along side Brooklyn singer Jamal Marcelin , an interesting artist able to convey great emotions through his voice, as smooth as silk. Inspired by the likes of stellar acts such as D’Angelo,John Legend and Luther Vandross , Mr.Marcelin caught our attention with his gentle touch! KilCool describes the production process for I Can’t Let Go

I produced and wrote the song,played the keys and drums and I wrote the melody and lyrics. Jamal and I go way back so I hit him up to feature on it. We used to be in chorus together so he’s always down to make music and he has an amazing voice. After we finished recording his vocals I layered it with harmonies and that was that!
