"Did you know some birds actually have teeth, and some have those teeth in their throats?" - Daggs.
I did know that! It's not really teeth though. More just hard spines or ridges to help them grip food. I think the English word for it is "papillae".
We have something similar too! We swallow a lot of our food whole. They're most noticeable on the more aquatic leaning Kijans, since they eat a lot of slippery fish. If something's squirming too much or we just need a little more grip, we can push out something similar from our tongues and palates to do that. Though not all of us can do it. It's a gene. Like how my tongue is forked, but my boyfriend's isn't.
I'm actually surprised my mouth is as soft as it is. I'm not sure if I just don't know how to do it, or I simply can't. I'm pretty purely a Tundra, so I won't be surprised if I simply can't. I've had a couple of larger preythings slip out of my mouth and nearly get away, making me have to use my teeth more. It's frustrating and embarrassing, especially when you're very hungry but still want that kick. I think having more papillae could help me.
Tundras like myself make up for it by having a very muscular tongue to wrap prey and keep it immobilized as we swallow. But sometimes I drool too much, and this doesn't help as much as it could.
I'm worried about my boyfriend. He's not himself. I don't think he has been for a while.
He's been talking less and less, he's always been quiet, but this feels different. I miss the way he'd light up when talking to me.
I haven't had time to cuddle him... I just want to hold him. I want to know what's wrong.
I just don't know what to do. All I have is my stethoscope, and my knowledge of where to poke and prod, what feels and sounds healthy and what doesn't. But that's only his physical body. I can't tell what's going on inside his head, and that upsets me.
Maybe today I'll remind him that I love him.
